A Toronto man who contracted HIV from his former stripper wife is hoping he's alive to see her get deported to Thailand.
Whiteman and his lawyer appeared before a Federal Court of Canada last Thursday in an ongoing battle with immigration officials to get Iamkhong deported due to her criminal record.
He has launched a $30-million lawsuit against the Canada Border Services Agency and Zanzibar Strip Club in Toronto in connection with the case.
He claims Iamkhong, 40, a former stripper at the Zanzibar, was allowed into the country with HIV and that led to his life being placed in jeopardy. Lawyers for the government are trying to have the case thrown out.
"I am the one who's suffering with HIV," Whiteman said. "My life is on the line and nothing has happened to her."

Zombieland Rule #21: Avoid strip clubs (and Thai strippers).
Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

They were married and she did not tell him she was HIV positive.

“So many issues in this story its hard to know where to start!”
Let’s start with the guy is an idiot and he’d like the Canadian gov’t (and some strip club!) to reward him for his idiocy with $30 million.

On one hand, I feel for the guy.
On the other hand...

He married a stripper, yet it never occurred to him “Oh, she’s a stripper, she might have some kind of STD, maybe she should get tested before we sleep together?” I believe statistically 1 in 4 adults has an STI/STD at any given time, so I wouldn’t take those chances with any random adult, much less a stripper. And why is he suing the strip club? Unless he actually contracted HIV from activity at the strip club, there’s no point - if he had met his wife while shopping at Wal-Mart, would he have sued them as well?
That said, while female-to-male HIV transmission is rare, I believe that only applies to intercourse and ‘rare’ still doesn’t mean ‘impossible’.

Maybe he likes women who sleep around and will drain his bank accounts for cocaine money?

$30 million seems a little steep, particularly since the settlement will be paid in singles.

of course, if he doesn’t know for certain that she is HIV-positive, all he’ll wind up doing is proving that he doesn’t know where he picked it up. Doesn’t sound like he’s all that fussy.

What is really amazing in this story is female to male transmission. That is really rare.
I spotted that as well. It is typically very hard for females to give HIV to males unless the male has open sores or lesions on his genitalia. Otherwise it is pretty difficult to transfer.
That reminds me of the doctor who told his patient with first symptoms of MS "You can't have MS, that's so rare" (She had MS). True story.
Statistically speaking it is absolutely correct that female-to-male transmission is difficult and rare. Heck, even male-to-male transmission from the receptive to the insertive partner is rare. The problem is that statistics can never predict the individual outcome. Firstly there are some many factors, most importantly genetics, also duration and intensity of intercourse, but even the immunosupressive effect of smoking triples your risk.
In the end, some guys are just lucky, and others - against all odds - aren't.

Doesn't anyone see the complete stupidity of this story????? She's fine! Not to mention this moron is completely safe as long as he A. Doesn't use illegal drugs B. Doesn't use massive amounts of antibiotics, antivirals and antifungals to combat STDs C. Doesn't accept or use anti-HIV immunosuppressants and/or DNA chain terminators as therapy.
HIV doesn't cause AIDs. AIDs is not sexually transmitted. Good grief!

I might as well worry about male breast cancer since I’m more likely to get that.

I might as well worry about male breast cancer since Im more likely to get that.
The statistics for that are available:
HIV incidence rate in the US is approx. 50,000, roughly 30% or 15,000 of that due to heterosexual intercourse. Those 15,000 split into ~10,000 female and ~5,000 male. Male breast cancer incidence rate is approx. 2,000.
However, regional and racial distribution of HIV cases is not even / homogeneous, just like obese men have a higher breast cancer risk.
As I said before: Statistics alone do not predict the individual case. They can however shed a light on problem areas. E.g. if I were an urban black woman in a southern state with a new partner, HIV should be on my mind. Or if I as a white male married a California stripper (don't even need to look as far as Thailand).

Got a link for those HIV incident rates, especially hetero female to male?

It's a rough estimate based on 2008 total incidence numbers combined with the 2006 homo / hetero and the 2007 male / female split, numbers JAMA / CDC.
http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/surveillance/incidence.htmhttp://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/surveillance/basic.htm (scroll down to "HIV/AIDS Cases by Transmission Category")
However, the national average is useless in determining one's own personal risk. as the CDC also points out, there is no HIV epidemic in rural Kansas, on the other hand HIV amongst heterosexuals is probably transmitted at a more than sustainable rate in cities like LA, NY, Atlanta or Miami.

Thanks.
Still say that there were probably other risk factors at play in this case.
