I would recommend getting regular mammograms regardless of what the articles of the day tell you. It can’t hurt.

It is about rationing. This is happening across the board in medicine. The mandate to the NIH last summer was to study the cost effectiveness of treatments and ways to limit healthcare.

I agree, until only so many are allowed under the new health rationing.

it is timed.
do what your doctor says, until your doctor is muzzled by the new health care laws into not giving advice that goes against govt regulations

Hopefully that won’t happen. Mammograms are a pretty big part of preventative care. The amount of money that will be spent to treat breast cancer would skyrocket if mammograms were discouraged. I don’t see it happening.

When this kicks in, does anyone think women over 60 are going to be allowed to have access to mammograms? I don’t

First it will be mammograms, then colonoscopies. Obamacare will decide when, where, and how often you get preventative tests. It will not be a doctor, but a bureaucrat who decides.

My two cents:
In this world of satellites, computers, and high-tech medical procedures, there has to be a better way to detect breast cancer than smashing your boob between two boards. Most women don’t get mammograms because it’s the horse and buggy of medical methodology and it hurts!!

I hope you are right. The person interviewed on “Fox & Fiends this AM said that women over 70 don’t need them as often because they usually get a slower growing cancer and generally isn’t fatal as often.

I said the same thing on an earlier thread here #10:

On a side note: just heard that a new study shows women between 40 and 50 and those over 70 probably don't really need to get that yearly mammogram. Let the rationing begin.

Here we go. The day after. From here on out they will have all their “experts” telling us how these practices are not necessary really, in fact they may be harmful.

Don’t you feel relieved and better now?

it might be what you said (preparing us to be screwed on healthcare) but I do believe that mammograms are overrated or even dangerous to a great degree. If we are deficient in iodine, and most of us are, then your thyroid will absorb ANY radiation and wreak havoc on the thyroid. But, much more importantly, iodine is CRUCIAL for breast health. In fact there is a directly correlation between breast health and iodine. Our RDA is 150mcg (tiny) but Japanese women get at least 15 MG/ day...a huge jump, and the incidence of breast cancer is minimal.

Google Dr. Brownstein and read up. It will truly blow your mind. Cures prostate issues as well.
If you want to know more I’ll fill you all in in a bit.

I get one every couple of years and sometimes every year since I was 25. My mom had breast cancer when she was 50.

Here’s my issue. My insurance pays for some of it, but most people can afford it and there are places that do it for cheap if you keep your eyes open. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. If you don’t have insurance, it costs $75. Seems like a bargain to me. You pay that much to have your car tuned up, why don’t people see that kind of healthcare cost should be paid by THEM, unless, of course, they are so poor they can’t afford it. I’ll prepare to be flamed.

I don’t mind paying for it, I just fear going the way of UK where you aren’t allowed to pay for extra medical care.

It’s just good business for an insurance company to cover a breast exam. Sometimes it’s either that or $100k for treatment. Cutting costs at the preventative stage is just plain dumb.

I agree with you...but my point is that if you don’t have insurance, there’s no reason NOT to get a mammogram if you believe you should have one.
