Was I Immoral or Wrong? (Vanity)

Posted on 11/30/2009 9:56:50 PM PST by TheArizona

My wife has Christmas pictures sceheduled in about a week. I was told to take myself and my older boy to Great Clips and have our hair cut. (No $1200 haircuts for me.)

Anyways, it was near closing time and there were 2 people working, a female and a male. The man was a big dude in height and weight maybe 6'0 200+ lbs with a beard and Go-T. Sorry, I don't know how to spell it. His fingernails were painted black and had an obvious gay accent.

The “gay accent” thing cracked me up. I used to work at a florist (started as a delivery driver and ended up as manager for a while) and found out quickly that I could sell pretty much anything to the women that came in... if I took on an effeminate affectation and used the word “fabulous” in the conversation. It was hilarious! And when guys came in to get flowers for their ladies, I’d call them “dude” and they’d know it was safe.

Is there no such thing as a goth homosexual?

I can’t define a gay voice but I know when I hear it.

How would this be a “bait” ? You mean if I was DUmmie or a HuffPo? Don’t those people already think that FreeRepublic is anti gay? What would be the point of a bait? In the grand scheme of things if it were a bait, would it really matter?

I simply had an experience tonight and wanted to share it and get some feedback.

I am not looking for validation, perhaps I phrased my post wrong. I just wanted to know if I was irational in my thinking, flawed thinking, would anyone else have done the same thing?

I've had gay men cut my hair and my masculinity wasn't threatened... I've also dealt with people who were unfaithful to their spouse without feeling that their sexual behavior might rub off on me.
I think you're making more of this than the situation warrants.
I see you're new at Free Republic too...
Welcome

Figured you were a newbie. I think you’re here just to make FR look bad. I don’t buy your story for a second. But nice try.

I don’t think Jim Morrison was a Goth, he was simply a junkie.

You encountered a situation where someone gave you the creeps and you decided to keep your kid away. You were being a Dad and that is your #1 job.

End of story. The reasons that the person made you uneasy should be irrelevant, all that matters is a voice inside your head told you no.

You can feel like a jerk for what influenced your decision but could you live with yourself if you decided to allow the situation to progress and something bad happened?

That's all that should matter, not some PC nonsense or what anyone else thinks. Trust your gut (unless you have a history of repeatedly making poor choices you thought brilliant at the time).

I think you are being a tad bit irrational. The “gay” isn’t contagious and I seriously doubt any harm would have come to your child right there in the middle of the salon in front of everyone. Besides, gay male hairdressers are pretty darn good! I hate that mine retired. :(

I am not a practicing Jew. My wife is Catholic, I was married in her church, I agreed to raise the kids Catholic, I even did Evenings for the Engaged. I don’t know if they are all called that but its the class you take before you get married into the Catholic Church. I’ve been to Church more than I have been to Temple.

I know its not contagious. But I couldn’t help but wonder where his hands had been and do I want them touching my or my sons head.

I know nothing would have happened, I have a CCW and carry a Glock 32.

I agree with several other posters on this thread. Frankly, you sound like a liberal coming here to gay-bait so you can write an article for your high school newspaper proclaiming "Look how mean and bigoted and eeeeevil conservatives are!" No normal person would ask a question like that.

You're young, you can still learn. Let me try to help you out. Here are my beliefs on homosexuality: I don't agree with the gay lifestyle and have no desire to see it glorified. I also take no pleasure in seeing it bashed. I bear no grudge or ill will towards gay people. My philosophy is live and let live. They have their lives and I have mine.

Now, here comes the important lesson: Though I cannot speak for everybody, this is the way the majority of conservatives think and it is the way the majority of Americans think. We are not obsessed with homosexuality, either with praising it or bashing it. Try looking at conservatives as people, not caricatures. You'll get a much more accurate view.

I understand your concerns, life is changing for many people...but, and I don't mean this as an insult, Its a haircut...deal with it.
I agree about your concerns of "exposing your child" to undesirable elements...but as for you...Chill out.

Hell, I grew up in the '50s and went to a barbershop with dead animals on the walls, guns in the corner and a trio of barbers who reeked of cigarettes, beer and bourbon...on a Saturday morning. But he cut my hair well enough to go back for 12 years or so...maybe 15. Cliff the Barber...RIP.
Later on I've had my hair clipped folks I'm certain walked on the side of the street I stayed off of...but it was just a haircut...not an "involvement." And they did a good enough job.

Don't worry about the "homophobe" sobriquet...you're probably not. But remember, its your head and YOU have the right to decide who gets close to it with sharp objects!

A good time to remember - Never talk politics or religion with some holding a razor close to your throat...;)

I think you should learn how to cut your child’s hair yourself. Seriously...have you seen the scratching habits of manly men? Do you think they wash their hands afterwards? Now you are getting me paranoid!!

I am 31 years old. No HS paper here. I don’t understand the gay bait idea. Whomever I would be “gay baiting” already think conservatives hate gay people anyway. Would it really be a shock to them?

Lets reverse this. Lets say I went to DU and said people who believe in god are idiots. Obviously comments in agreement would fill the post. Would anyone on FR be shocked at what would said? The answer is no. People at FR already know that the people on DU are godless athiestic marxists who hate America.

Would there really be anything to be gained by such an action?

I suggest you read some of my other posts, especially on the AZ forum.

>>>”I don’t think Jim Morrison was a Goth, he was simply a junkie.”<<<

Yup. Sure. Nothing dark or Gothic about these lyrics.

Nosireee.

THE END

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I’ll never look into your eyes...again
Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger’s hand
In a...desperate land
Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah
There’s danger on the edge of town
Ride the King’s highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby
Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he’s old, and his skin is cold
The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we’ll do the rest
The blue bus is callin’ us
The blue bus is callin’ us
Driver, where you taken’ us
The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...WAAAAAA
C’mon baby,-———— No “take a chance with us”
C’mon baby, take a chance with us
C’mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin’ a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin’ a blue rock
C’mon, yeah
Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you’ll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
This is the end

I wonder what your son did while the same person was cutting your hair.

It's up to you who you select to cut you and your son's hair, and you are being a good father by doing everything you can to protect your young son, but:

1. I don't think you need to worry about the child molester angle. For one thing you would be sitting right there. Also the real child molesters often don't seem gay at all.

2. Likewise how much "lifestyle indoctrination" is he going to be able to do during a haircut?

3. I also go to Great Clips. I very often find that the hair dressers I am dreading based on first impressions actually do a very good job. There is one guy who has cut my hair a few times who I always assumed was gay, partly because of his job. But I found out he has kids.

4. There was a guy who used to cut hair for members of my family. 150% gay. I was usually out of town so I only went there once. He helped to take care of my father after a stroke. Used his skills to prepare indigent dead people for burial. He was a good citizen and a good person.

Wonder how he feels about two straight chicks getting faux-freaky in the back alley at biker bar Halloween party?
