One of the greatest football seasons in University of Cincinnati history may end on a sour note.

According to IrishCentral.com, UC's Brian Kelly will be the next Notre Dame coach. IrishCentral.com is also the Internet home of Irish Voice and Irish America magazines.

Reporter Sean O'Shea writes that a well-informed person says that Kelly is expected to sign a deal soon. UC (11-0) plays at Pittsburgh on Saturday, with the winner claiming the Big East Conference championship and a spot in a BCS bowl game.

I hope it happens; Kelly seems like a solid choice. But, another piece I read today said Bob Stoops had already secretly signed a deal to become Notre Dame's next coach. So, who knows?

My son is a student at Notre Dame and a member of the Band of the Fighting Irish. Looks like he won't have to worry about traveling to a bowl game this year. :)

He must be getting alot more money. Why else would you leave an undefeated team with an outside shot at a National Championship in order to go take over that perennial loser ND ?

I was kinda hoping that Gruden would get the nod.

I’m starting to think that ND just can’t compete with the big 40K student schools.

They had some good history.

This was a comment of the article on another site:

dale Posted December 2, 2009 at 6:04 PM This report is completely false. Kelly reported on 700WLW in Cincinnati this morning that he’s staying in Cincinnati and not pursuing the Notre Dame job. Report is also that he is signing a 10 year extension worth 5 mil a year.

I believe Kelly is getting $1.475 mil. a year at Cincy

He’s a winner, but it’s going to be weird, and depressing, to see the spread offense at Notre Dame.

Hard to believe Cinn. can pony up $5 mm a year for a football coach. That is NFL level head coach salary.

I wish that was the case. You know WLW would be splashing a scoop like that on the air and their web page. Also the Enquirer would do a follow up.

There is no mention of a 10 mil deal at either.

He would be a homerun hire for the golden domers, but I doubt there has been much talk between Kelly and ND so far. Maybe after this week they will talk but as of now their is too much at stake for Cincinnati to allow their coach to talk to anybody.

Cincinnati doesn’t have that kind of cash. If anything part of a package to keep him their at Cincinnati would include facility upgrades, as well as a raise(which would definitely not be too five million a year which would eclipse every college coach in any sport)

Not nearly as wierd and depressing as having the premiere "Catholic" university in the nation give a honorary law degree to a baby-killing Communist.

(I paid for the right to say that.)

Cincinnati isn’t going to pay anyone $5 million to coach. That’s quite a bit more that Urban Meyer, Nick Saban or Pete Carroll.

He may get a big raise, but not too $5 million.

Does he get to pin Notre Dame medals on Obama and help with abortions. ND is a sh*t school and a fake Catholic University that supports abortion.

Clowns fawning over college football & the NFL are headed towards dhimini serfdom. Obama and the TV networks know sports fans will do their part.

well, let’s start with the positives. he has demonstrated:

- recruits Ohio better than Ohio State
- has access to the East Coast being having been in the Big East (marketing, recruiting, PR)
- can build a good program into a powerhouse
- has an offense that scores point without supe blue chippers

the potential for bad is that he has had some real trouble kids that get swept under the rug at Cincy. chances are that won’t happen at ND.

then again, they let BO speak there so maybe they don’t give a crap about such things.

While he might have a better team this year than Ohio State, Cincinnati still for the most part gets the leftovers in the state of Ohio. Since Kelly arrived at Cincinnati, Ohio St. has had much more heralded recruiting classes.
