Notre Dame has settled on Brian Kelly as the man who can restore its faded glory, just as he turned Cincinnati into a national title contender.
Just 10 days after Charlie Weis was fired, it's up to Kelly to revive the fortunes of a team that just completed the worst decade of football in the history of the storied program with a 70-52 record and three losing seasons.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen first reported Kelly would take over in South Bend.

Too bad the move from Kelly from Cincinnati to Notre Dame has to be announced before the bowl games. Kick in the gut to the Cincinnati players, I would think.
And it would still be called the "Big Ten" with the addition of Notre Dame? They can't call it the "Big Twelve", because that name is already taken.
It would still be superior to the Big 12 in every way.

I don't think they get special treatment from the media. Many in the media have been criticizing them because they fired the previous coach too soon and he was an African American. ESPN and several radio shows have been very negative.
I think there are three reasons they have underperformed:
1. Since Holtz the coaches were specialists and not experienced or flexible enough
2. academic standards are truly higher than most schools
3. recruiting depth
I really want to know.

I read an article that Kelley demanded Notre Dame change some (unfortunately unspecified in the article) things that hampered recruiting ability.
Anyhow I feel bad for the Bearcats players and fans. If Texas had missed that field goal they would be in the “National Championship” game, would Kelley still have decided to leave?
He built a good program there.
Kelley seems a genuinely nice fellow, and his players were loyal to the core. They seemed PERSONALLY hurt by his departure, which says a lot about his relationship with the kids.
He'll be fine at ND because he's got the recruiting process down. I expect them to be better under Kelley than under the last few coaches.

Really ND owns NBC? Oh you must be talking about the fact that NBC decided to hook up with Notre Dame because most of the other good conferences have own deals with ESPN, ABC, CBS, or Fox... Who the hell does ND think they are trying to get the best TV coverage they can? So what else grinds your gears?

If you think ND needs the money from BCS games you don’t follow college football quite as closely as you claim. As to ‘Not deserving’ a bid how the hell is Georgia Tech getting one this year?

Oh yea those poor prosecuted power conferences. When ND keeps a mid major from a bowl game you wake me up. Until then I guess the CS conferences will have to console themselves with the thought that they can lock TCU out.
Ah, the old ND Georgia Tech rivalry! As a kid many decades ago I thought it was hilarious when ND came to Grant Field.

And the irony is that the opposing Head Coach in their bowl game is a UC Alum.
Here's hoping their new coach works out just as well as the last coach from the Cincinnati area.
Higher then Navy? They have won two in a row and played ND tough in some of the recent loses.
Tougher then Stanford? They have turned their program around.
Be ready ND fans! Brian Kelly is a LIAR, who told his team last week that he wasn't going anywhere.
He said that before the Pitt game, which they won by one point. From what I read in the papers, the Cincinnati players feel betrayed.
Kelly's the best placeholder they could find for the next several years, until Urban Meyer's kids have all grown and left home, whereupon Mrs. Meyer will allow Urban to move to South Bend. Kelly will make a lot of money in the interim.
There are two coaches in college basketball that I really respect: the late Don Haskins of UTEP, and Mark Few of Gonzaga. They could have left for greener pastures, but opted to stay in places they grew to love.
Few may move on some day, but it's not likely, as he's already turned down big time jobs, mostly Pac 10 schools.
Stanford deserves great credit for their excellence in athletics and academics. They're consistently in the top 5 when it comes to graduation rates.
Personally, I think Harbaugh would have been a better pick for ND. He's shown that he can recruit academically superior athletes.
Of course, I understand why Harbaugh would want to stay at Stanford. That part of the Bay Area is beautiful. If I had the $$$, it would be at the top of a short list. I grew up in the East Bay, and have fond memories of living there.
