Circle of friends The importance of other people in our preparedness plans
Backwoods Home Magazine ^ | Dec. 17, 2009 | Claire Wolfe

Hardcore survivalists cherish what I call the "George Romero Scenario." It goes like this: The proverbial poop has hit the propeller. Cities collapse into chaos. But we, the prepared, are...well, we're prepared. We hunker in our rural bunkers, clutching our Super Whiz-Whacker 3000 combat arms, eagle-eyed and ready for any eventuality. We boldly fend off wave after ravenous wave of starving city folk who stagger at us like unstoppable zombies in a Romero horror flick. These zombies crave not our living flesh, but our six-gallon, mylar-lined superpails of dried lentils, our root cellars full of last year's carrots, and our genuine, federally issued Meals Ready to Eat.

What is disturbing is that we are staring at a *flock* of "Black Swan" events, any one of which might have been experienced by perhaps a dozen people now living in America.

Hmm, we read the same books : )

BTW, as an act of civil disobedience, I have moved all funds and business activities save for a tiny fragment, offshore.

Hmm, I have done it partially anyway, for tax purposes.

Screw the Coup.

I call it going John Galt.

I like the way you think : )

“Buying guns and ammo before you are out of debt is stupid. “

If a crisis hits, do you think any of that debt will be enforced? I don’t. I do think protection today and every day, not to mention during a crisis, is not “stupid”. During a crisis do you think you’ll be seeing any dividends from a foreign entity? I mean, they can keep your dough, not pay dividends, or the feds can simply take it from you.

Obviously if our government fails tomorrow and our currency becomes worthless it would be better to have a huge debt and a huge stockpile of guns and of whatever you may need for the next twenty years : )

It isn't going to happen that way though. We are probably going to go through a period of deflation first, before the hyperinflation and collapse kick in. This is going to be a long, agonizingly slow process. We have plenty of time to prepare, the key is to plan and prepare, to actually do it. It is important to do it in a fiscally prudent manner, unless of course you can time the collapse accurately : )

“government fails tomorrow and our currency becomes worthless “

I am seeing the people pissed off enough to toss out the federal government and the dollar is looking worse by the day.

I had the hand pump installed by my well company.

As for the tobacco, you can buy big bags of pipe tobacco for about eight bucks. No need to go spend fifty bucks a pop on cartons.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

You are absolutely correct, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. When I said agonizingly slow, that is precisely what I meant : )

We would all be much better off if we took back our government today. The problem is that things aren't bad enough to motivate enough people yet. When things get bad enough to motivate people, it is too late.
