That they processed aboard the enormous floating wildlife collection two-by-two is well known. Less familiar, however, is the possibility that the animals Noah shepherded on to his ark then went round and round inside.
According to newly translated instructions inscribed in ancient Babylonian on a clay tablet telling the story of the ark, the vessel that saved one virtuous man, his family and the animals from god's watery wrath was not the pointy-prowed craft of popular imagination but rather a giant circular reed raft.
The now battered tablet, aged about 3,700 years, was found somewhere in the Middle East by Leonard Simmons, a largely self-educated Londoner who indulged his passion for history while serving in the RAF from 1945 to 1948.
The relic was passed to his son Douglas, who took it to one of the few people in the world who could read it as easily as the back of a cornflakes box; he gave it to Irving Finkel, a British Museum expert, who translated its 60 lines of neat cuneiform script.
There are dozens of ancient tablets that have been found which describe the flood story but Finkel says this one is the first to describe the vessel's shape.
"In all the images ever made people assumed the ark was, in effect, an ocean-going boat, with a pointed stem and stern for riding the waves so that is how they portrayed it," said Finkel. "But the ark didn't have to go anywhere, it just had to float, and the instructions are for a type of craft which they knew very well. It's still sometimes used in Iran and Iraq today, a type of round coracle which they would have known exactly how to use to transport animals across a river or floods."

The dimensions of the Ark were and are the same as the most stable ocean going vessels of today - look at the oil tanker as an example.
These dimensions and draft are the least likely to capsize from broadside waves.

I thought it was Noah leading a pair of animals.
That’s essentially what I was saying. Navigation played no part, and they were in God’s hands.
Exactly. The headline of this story is deceptive. One version of the Flood story says that the boat was circular, but the name given in that version is not even Noah.
Yup, The United Planets Cruiser C-57D on the planet Altair 4 from “Forbidden Planet”.

So it was bagel shaped?
I think they are full of elephant . . . uhhhhh . . . processed elephant hay.
Seems to me the Biblical description is rather clear . . . and folks who’ve visited it in the glacier on Mt Ararat say it fits the Biblical description.
Every week it’s something, the OLDEST, the BIGGEST, the FURRIEST... Now, Noah’s ark which is EXPLICITLY described as rectangular is found to be circular...
We need like “National Enquirer, Science Edition” or something.
Especially since alot of these ideas are the LOONIEST...!!!!
A guys gotta laugh, though...!
Does it really matter what shape it was? Obviously, it must have worked, and there is no requirement that it be built again (unless it’s one of those awful designs for a church). Yes, some congregation actually built a church shaped like the ark. Ugly? Yes. Does it really matter? No.
As to forgetting what shape it actually was, its just one less thing to worry about.
Whoops, sorry, thanks Pontiac for that ping.
Noah’s Ark: I-The Ship on Ararat by Dwardu Cardona (in two parts, vol 12, KRONOS)
There could be only one purpose for a space vehicle of that size, IF the basic story is true which is a big if; the purpose would be to evacuate one or more cities completely out of our solar system. The ship in the pictures, again assuming the film footage isn't made up, would be one which did not get off for whatever reason.
The flood and the two or three later events which Velikovsky wrote about would have been the final chapter in a series of catastrophes. People living in our system before the series of disasters began would have had no way to know if anything in our system would remain habitable at all; you'd assume at least some of them would try to get out.
THAT might be what an ark is supposed to look like...
thx
For this effect, the main image is a composite of four different frames from the original video taken during Apollo 20 CSM flyover.Thanks.
I mean, from the end of WW-II until 1970 or thereabouts the idea of getting to the moon was the ultimate goal of science and man's mission on Earth. There were times when it seemed that's all we ever heard about in the news. And then the one big step for mankind thing like we've just crossed the threshold and the future of space travel is wide open and all that...
And then one or two more trips to do the same basic thing and then the whole thing is yesterday's news: been there, done that, now it's time to get on with perfecting our welfare state and fighting little demokkkrat wars and what not. The whole thing just goes away.
I mean, is that believable, or could it be that whatever those guys saw up there messed their minds and their paradigms so badly that the whole thing got made into a black project and we never hear about it any more? Who knows....
There are numerous Science Fiction stories about the ark being a spaceship. APerhaps a flying saucer is about right ;-)
A circular boat would spin rapidly in such chaotic waters and currents creating an unlivable centripetal force...think of the the ‘centrifuge type” ride at an amusement park or county fair.
