Kate Bush, good for you.

You have some good ones.

I would have Stevie Nicks on list, Chrissie Hynde and Natalie Merchant.

Say what you will about her but Amy Winehouse has an incredible voice.

And Bonnie Raitt should be on that list too.

Solo makes it challenging because so many of my favorites are only with a group. (several of these are both with a group and have solo projects).

Mariah Carey
Alecia Beth Moore (Pink)
Eithne Patricia Ní Bhraonáin (Enya)
Sarah McLaughlin
Lita Ford
Floor Jansen
Tarja Turunen
Amanda Somerville

I agree with you on Edith Piaf but I think each of the following are far better than your other choices:

Lena Horne
Judy Garland
Patsy Cline
Lorretta Lynn
Janis Joplin
Judy Collins
Alison Krause
Linda Ronstadt
Lucinda Williams

...Natalie Merchant.

Though she did start with 10,000 Maniacs...she has had a great solo career.

I want to add Etta James to the list...

As far as vocals go, Karen Carpenter could out-sing anyone. I defy someone to find a better vocalist.
