DES MOINES, Iowa -- The annual Bacon Fest held in Des Moines this weekend is already sold out.
The third annual Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival kicks off on Saturday. Last year, bacon lovers indulged in 13 different kinds of bacon.
This weekend's festival is sold out. Close to 600 people have purchased tickets to chow down on more than 1,000 pounds of bacon on Saturday.
Baby Boomers Cafe in the East Village is gearing up for Bacon Fest by making their famous chocolate chunk cookies with bacon.
Owner Rodney Maxfield said they've already sold 2,800 this week.
"I think its a little bit of both. I think people just love bacon actually and of course they love the cookie, so you put two things together and you get a bacon cookie," said Maxfield.
A bacon-eating contest will wrap up the festival on Saturday afternoon. Tickets are sold out to the contest.

Speaking of bacon... tried that new Bacon Blue burger from Wendy’s and I thought my mouth died and went to heaven. Something about the blend smoked applewood bacon and blue cheese that makes the taste buds dance!

I’m surprised there aren’t Muslims somehow indignant about this.

I’ve seen the commercials the last couple of days. I was wondering how that burger is.

Bacon is always a good reason. I live in Omaha and if I had known about this before today I would be driving the 2-1/2 hours to pig out on bacon. Bacon is good with anything.

Try a peanut butter sandwich with strips of bacon and a little sugar or honey on it. Been eating those for many years and they are a real treat.

600 tickets sold. 1000 pounds of bacon. You do the math.
Yum!
