Vanity: Anybody with Experience of Cinguler/AT&T with a Palm Treo Smart phone?

Posted on 03/07/2010 3:48:17 PM PST by C19fan

I was thinking of buying a used or refurbished Palm Treo on eBay. I use AT&T wireless so I can just stick my SIM chip from my current phone. I asked around and heard mostly negative things including one woman who likes Palm but one phone melted her SIM chip. Just curious if Freepers have had good or bad experiences.

I had a palm treo 600 for several years with AT&T, and didn’t have any trouble with it at all. Went through a few batteries, but that’s normal with any phone. It was a perfectly fine smartphone.

Switched to an iPhone last year, but I’m looking forward to the new Windows Phone 7 Series due out later this year.

I have had a palm treo for almost 4 years now. I have dropped it repeatedly and actually went swimming with it in my pocket (jumped in the lake in front of my house after my 3 year old fell in). After I dried it out (took 2 days to completely do the job), I put it back together and it worked fine. That was about 2 years ago. I love it.

I will soon need a new phone and am going to be sorry to see it go. I have actually purchased two other phones in the last year, but returned them within 30 days and went back to the treo. (they were blackberry storm and palm pre). I did like the palm pre, but I don’t like sprint. If you don’t have to pay too much for the phone, I would say go for it. Just my opinion.

I’ve been using this phone with Verizon for the past few years and have only had to replace it 5 or 6 times. I’m not kidding. The current phone has outlasted all the others so I have no complaints with it now... but I’m not holding my breath either.

Only one piece of advice about the treo. The car charger stinks. It falls out easily so you have to put it somewhere that it can lay flat so that the cord will stay in. That is the only thing I hate.

Back in the day I LOVED my treo 600. It did crap out on me though by getting just a few droplets of water on the touchscreen.

My replacement phone had windows OS, I liked the OS but not the phone.

The newer Treo’s that have windows would have probably been the ticket.

Is there more than one? I might buy one myself and save the trouble of getting a new phone.

Which treo is it that you are looking at. I have the 680. I have heard that people don’t like the one with the windows OS. I played with one at the store, but didn’t like that one.

Bump for later
I don’t know about the Treo but I was thinking about upgrading my BBerry Storm to a Palm Pre Plus (have an Android for work line)- curious about seeing the feedback you get.

I have a Palm Treo through Sprint that I like. It’s been replaced a couple of times in three years, but it gets alot of use; the kids chew on it, play video games when we’re in the doctors office, drop it from shopping carts onto hard floors...It puts up with alot of abuse.

Had a 680 for years. Loved it. Would still be using it if it could run Opera Mini.
