Don’t pay attention to the R&RHOF but not including the following tells me they don’t know the good stuff from the fluff: JOE COCKER (best R&R singer of all time), ALICE COOPER (originator of shock rock), DEEP PURPLE (go go godzilla), DIRE STRAITS (I am stunned), DONOVAN (stunned again), THE FACES (stunned once more), MC5 (kick out the Jams MFers), MOTT THE HOOPLE (again stunned), PROCOL HARUM (cannot believe they aren’t in), LEON RUSSELL, STEPPENWOLF (huh, you have to be kidding, the original heavy metal band), WAR (w and w/o Eric Burden), WARREN ZEVON.

The real question is who is actually in the HOF?

Match that with Dire Straights. Sultans Of Swing is timeless.

I was at a stereo place one time. Just kicking tires on a pair of Klipsch Corner Horns. The guy put in Dire Straights' Money For Nothing. WOW what an intro. As it builds up and then the drums begin. The hair on my arms was standing up, and I felt like the guy in the old Memorex ad.

If you like New Wave, here’s a pretty cool list of bands. Some you’ve forgotten about, and this site helps finding some good stuff on youtube.

I was a little iffy on The Cars, I don’t really consider them rock so much as late new wave/80s pop, but they had an incredible impact on 80s music (some good, some crap).

I was actually shocked that Procol Harum and Steppenwolf weren’t already in, I would have assumed that they would have been inducted in the “second wave” (after major inductees like the Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, etc.).

Bruce Sprinsteen. There’s someone that if they never played again, the quality of life in the US would dramatically improve.

"Roxy Music - Avalon"

Did you know Brian Ferry was pretty right leaning? From his Wikipedia entry...

"In 2008, Ferry alluded to support for the Conservative Party, referring to himself as "conservative by nature," but essentially apolitical. Without elaborating, he stated he was "proud" of his right-wing son Otis and declared the ban on fox hunting "futile." He also alluded to an opposition to "left-wing bitterness" and the spectre of "political correctness," "

Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Screamin’ Lord Sutch were there with shock rock theatrics before Alice Cooper but I’m ok with him in the Hall (Lord Sutch also had an open ear for musicians giving some like Nicky Hopkins and Noel Redding their start).

Journey. Steve Perry had some of the best vocals ever in R&R.

Didn’t know that. The Smithereens are still putting out albums (Beatles’ covers lately) and the leader’s on record as a concervative.

I was born in 1967 and it’s scary how much stuff from that list I have owned or still have. Somewhere in my parents’ attic there’s a box of cassettes with a lot of that stuff, but they’ve probably melted or a bunch of them probably have mold from spilled beer and stuff).

I may actually see if some of this stuff is on iTunes.

Let me add The Pretty Things to the overlooked list.

I’d put The Faces on par with The Small Faces for inclusion and on that basis then put them both behind The Pretty Things.

You may not find some material on itunes (that even had been there). Some artists take issue with their material being on there through their labels. Most recently Pink Floyd took EMI to task for offering single track downloads instead of requiring full albums.

Johnny Rivers.....period...his absence makes the RRHOF irrelevant.

Darn straight! Learned rhythm guitar listening to him and he produced greats like the 5th Dimension...loved them too.

"Alice Was AWESOME. Yeah she was repulsive when repulsive wasn’t cool. I caught her once at the Hollywood Sportatorium. The Amazing James Randi toured with her/it helping out with Special Fx like the Guillotine Trick. I think Alice defined pandemonium. But the music still holds together nicely. Some of it."

I aaw Alice 2x in Tulsa, his Billion Dollar Baby, and Welcome to my Nightmare tours. The one I really wanted to see his Killer tour. A classic performer. I believe he started “glam rock”.
