What Are Rank-n-File Dems Saying About Obama Now? (Vanity)
Me | 3/24/2010 | Ocarterma

Posted on 03/24/2010 11:26:41 AM PDT by Ocarterma

My wife voted for Barack Obama. Although she is marginally a democrat (she grew up in a dem family), she's only voted twice since she became of voting age. Once for Bill Clinton in '92 and this last time in 2008 for Barack Obama.

My wife thoroughly hates politics and nearly sat out the 2008 election until she got swept up in the "Historics of the Moment".

Although I can't get away with "bashing" Obama constantly to her---she herself now deplores him and can't stand to see him or Michele on the tv.

Now after this HC debacle ("they can't even run the $#%@&!!! post office!!!!"---my wife says of the gov't), she has vowed to vote GOP no matter what come November 2010 & 2012.

Funny thing is the only Republican she likes is Sarah Palin, although she'd "take a trained poodle on a unicycle" over Obama now.

My question is, how wide spread is this discontent among other ran-n-file, average everyday Dems and Obama voters?

Anyone else have any real life stories to share?

It would be wise to keep a sharp eye on family members who were so gullible as to be fooled by the least experienced man ever to run for office anywhere. Perhaps they should not be trusted with a joint checking account.

I wish I had as encouraging a story - my cousin is a diehard liberal, and Obama supporter. He is also a HS teacher - and I think is rarely outside that circle and out in the “real world”. So his idea of this healthcare bill is all unicorns tossing skittles.

To a family member by marriage, Obama was The Man in November 2008 and Palin was an idiot.

To the same relative in December 2009, Obama was the idiot.

I tried to stifle my smirk.

Dennis Miller played two messages he received yesterday about conservatives who had family members that voted from BO that are very sorry they did. That’s all the info I have. I don’t know any BO voters that have changed their mind.

The discontent will be directly proportional to the intelligence level of those who voted for him. In other words - not very high.

Hey, to a Dem, change is good. Unless it is with respect to climate, an increase in personal responsibility, a lowering of taxes, a cutting of trees, drilling for oil, nuclear power, etc...

she got swept up in the "Historics of the Moment". >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Correction:

she got swept up in the "Histrionics of the Moment".

If she kenw anything about Historics, she would know Obama as a liberal fascist , the "soft tyrant" becoming the "hard tyrant."

Many were fooled. IMHO, dumber than dirt.

If they all voted twice for the GOP in the next election, they wouldn't be able to compete with the Obama amnesty voters.

There are very few genuine second chances in this life IMHO. Houston, we have a problem!

In an effort to find out such things and to balance out my own admitted overexposure to Rush, Sean, and Levin (which drives me nuts many days) I’ve been listening of late to Norman Goldman, who calls himself a Progressive and broadcasts up here (No CA Bay Area) on “Green 960”.

Frankly, even though he comes from the liberal viewpoint, I’ve been favorably impressed by his honest and logical analysis. What I’ve gleaned as to his take (and I do not suggest he is “rank and file” but a notably intelligent commentator:

In his view, the lack of a public option in the HC bill is a complete abject, miserable failure that essentially invalidates the entire effort.

And is proof positive that the Democrat leadership is absolutely as beholden to and captive of the insurance lobby as are the evil Republicans to the oil, armaments and warmaking lobbies.

That this will pass the Senate.

That after this is passed, no congreesman/woman will EVER EVER voluntarily TOUCH it again. EVAH.

He HATES the bill.

Just because “Obama is an idiot” doesn’t mean that “Sarah Palin is NOT an idiot,” logically speaking. There’s no association/relation between the objects “Obama” and “Sarah Palin.”

Unfortunately, I just heard an account of an overheard conversation which took place at a restaurant in a conservative state last evening; most of a group of young adults were eagerly talking up the health care bill’s passage, the coming cap and tax, and a one world government which would punish the exploitative industrialized nations. And one was talking up the need for the government to force people to return to subsistence farming as a way of life in order to save the Earth and to create a just society.

I'll add another one: A lot of young Ron Paul supporters ended up voting for Obama and will not be voting for anyone who supported this bill, either in 2010 or 2012. I hear this through my kids. I'll never understand how they went from Ron Paul to Obama, but apparently some did.

I never said you should. I just said that it is better to vote for PERSON than a PARTY. A person is able to be reasoned with, persuaded, or otherwise convinced (like the parable of The Unjust Judge); on the other hand, a party is beholden to no-one and can (if large enough) always send you to someone else, adopting the Bureaucratic/Rat-in-a-maze philosophy.

I really love reading stories like yours. Sadly, the liberals I know (friends and family) still approve and like Obama and his policies. All hard-core liberals. Although, one of them wishes Hillary was president. We don’t talk politics; we have other common interests believe it or not. One of them actually watches FOX news all the time (to find out the other side’s talking points).

A woman I know voted for Obama, but "didn't vote for this." When I informed her that he is a Marxist, and that anyone who did a little digging could see that immediately, but the media made sure that info was buried, she was not a happy camper. She really had thought Obama was trying to "do the right thing", and that Pelosi was the one pushing the socialism. She hates Pelosi. Ha.

No matter he’s an advocate for abortionists, corrupt as too many

How do you manage to maintain your marriage? My other half tells me that he voted for Clinton. I think he just tells me that to get me going! A lady at work has a Dem hubby. She just calmly states “we cancel out each others vote”. It’s like Mary Matlin and James Carvell. I would think that it would cause much arguing. He is also a HS teacher - and I think is rarely outside that circle and out in the “real world”.

'Tis the same problem with Mrs WBill. She's in academia, all of her friends are in academia, all of her coworkers are in academia, etc etc etc. I will say that she's easily the most well-adjusted of them all, she's a Southern Democrat (conservative).... some of her co-workers are just.......whoa. Really out there.

She gets a cold slap in the face every April 15th. Also, when I get any kind of bonuses....

She: "You said that this bonus was going to be a thousand bucks!"

Me: "Yep, and it was."

She:"But this check is only for less than $600".

Me: "Yep, the difference is what I pay in income taxes."

She:"We pay MORE THAN FORTY PERCENT in INCOME TAX?!!@#@!"

Me: "Yep. At the margin, which is where bonuses are counted."

She:(seeing vacations, shopping, whatever evaporating...) "#@$#@%#$#$#@!!!!!!!#!$##$@!!"

Elections have consequences. I'm not looking forward to the Bush cuts being rolled back, increases to pay for healthcare, and whatever else is in the pipeline that I'm trying hard not to think about. Dunno what she'll say when she sees the same bonus checks next year.

If I get one. And if I'm still employed.

You know, as a mother, wife, Republican, conservative, Christian, and Rush listener/supporter, I was very dismayed by the conversation of the young adults and about the health care legislation and our country in general, but I definitely am also definitely not in your camp in any way, shape, or form. NOTHING is more evil IMO than to openly discuss reducing free American citizens to slavery : That is what the Democrats did, and that's what those young creatures are cheering. They want to see us reduced to LESS than slaves-to livestock! And

I doubt we will be able to agree on this, so I guess we'll just leave it at that.
