Weird stuff seems to go with major comets. When a comet appeared in A.D. 60, the people of Rome assumed it meant the impending death of their still new emperor, Nero. He responded by exiling a potential rival. When another comet turned up just 4 years later, ancient historians say he ordered the execution of dozens of nobles. It is said that Moctezuma II saw a comet in 1517 that foreshadowed the downfall of Aztec empire. In 1910, a wave of hysteria swept over the United States amid reports that Earth was about to pass through Halley's tail.

This is a program the city of Henderson has. If you buy a “Henderson Home” which is in the older part of the city, the city will finance you if you meet certain qualifications.

One has be of low income (varies with number of family members) and have a certain amount of assets (nothing over a specified amount, such as other real estate,) reside in Henderson for at least a year and be eligible for other social programs.

If one meets these requirements, they must have $750 for a down payment, plus $750 for closing costs, and the city will provide the lender. You also qualify for up to $30,000 in upgrades, which does not include appliances, and since this is Nevada, the insurance and taxes on the property are included in the mortgage payment.

For my situation, I can handle up to $280 for a payment, but for what I have researched so far, my payments would be less than what I pay for rent here.

It’s a win-win situation. I’ve met all of the qualifications but the $1500. And I am EVER the optimist!!

SOUNDS GREAT.

I suspect even I might manage to avoid being kicked out the first 10 minutes! LOL.

It kind of makes me want to move to Henderson and buy a qualifying house ... but it’s so hot there!

Looks like it’s about to be time to eat en nuestra casa. Meat!

An argument is no fun unless you’ve got people who (a) disagree, and (b) can support their position and won’t get in a tizzy. You’d be a fun guest, I’m sure.

If I had not avoided being kicked out the first 10 minutes, I think I would have been stranded somewhere on the CIA properties...

You would love the challenges presented by Der Prinz and his brood. TC is the Overseer, and she is beyond peer!

The heat is exactly why folks invest in Rolladen shades and state-of-the-art A/C!

What did you say you were having for BBQ today?

PIG. And vegetables. And various adult beverages of the Restorative sort.

At the end of a philosophical discussion (when it’s time to eat, or you got loud enough to wake the baby) everyone should say, “Hey, that was fun!” and go to bed happy.

Time to eat here, cheers to all, and remember our fallen comrades.

I remember all who have served, and pay homage to those who have served without my knowing them.

Here’s to the PIG! (She says, slurping her own Restorative!)

QUITE SO.

And thanks for your kind words.

You have long earned a lot of my respect and a fond spot in my heart regardless of our different perspectives.

WHOA! Thanks, but...um...well...
Um...I try not to get emotionally involved in whatever thread I’m on, and I really do try hard to present my view with logic, but there are many times when I have failed miserably!

Still, being who I am, and having endured what I have over my life, I really try to present my argument(s) with a certain removed degree. Sometimes, I fail. Sometimes, I almost make it. Other times, I treat myself to chocolate!

Thanks again for accepting me!

Perhaps you’ll wake up and remember that I’m the bloke with all the emotional colors and fonts . . . LOL.

Dispassionate is not in my dictionary very often.

Wellll that’s not quite true . . . but sorta.

On the Undead Thread, differences held elsewhere are ignored, and current disagreements are carefully kept under control. We all need a supportive environment somewhere!

Hoping you have an excellent June!

"I have had to carry a vial of Nitroglycerin with me for at least 40 years."

Is that like the trick of putting books on your head to practice correct posture? I can see that it would tend to make a person move with carefulness, if not grace.

Guess you're going to wake up somewhere else, because it's Moving Day.

What a day. Gray and drippy when we got to the Seattle Center, and not many folks there. Later, with the event underway, still not many folks and it had turned to full drizzle. An hour or so later the rain had stopped, it hard stared drying, a little bit of blue sky could be spotted to the SW. An hour after that -- full sun, blue sky, and crowds.
