Fred Grandy (a.k.a Gopher from "The Love Boat) and Andy Parks are out. FishbowlDC sources have confirmed and DCRTV (www.dcrtv.com) is reporting that WMAL's (630 AM) duo has been fired. Grandy is a former Republican member of Congress.
It won't happen immediately -- their end date is still up in the air. The news has been circulating at the station all day long. Word has it that corporate-wide cuts of the most expensive employees are necessary to save money.
Station manager Paul Duckworth did not return a phone request for comment at FBDC press time.

Plante To Mornings At MAL? - 4/21
More WMAL rumors. DCRTV hears that the end of the “Grandy And Andy Morning Show,” which has been Fred Grandy-less since late last week, could be coming sooner rather than later. DCRTV reported last week that the owner of the righty talker on 630 AM, Citadel, has secretly set an end-date for the G&A show in order to cut costs related to its recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. We hear that the odds are less likely that WMAL will replace G&A with Don Imus piped-in from sister WABC radio in NYC, and more likely that WMAL late-morning man Chris Plante, who gets paid a lot less than Grandy and Andy Parks, will get shifted to the morning drive slot. Well, I could obviously live with Chris, even though I get sick of hearing the same liberals calling in over and over to try and debate him. He absolutely gives them to much slack and should shut them down once they start ranting.
Still, Citadel is making a terrible mistake, and WMAL will pay for it, especially if they put Joe Blow back in Chris’ old slot.
We are so scr00wed, but I can handle Chris Plante in the early AM.
I used to listen to Mike Savage on WTNT, but then he made that awful comment about autistic kids, so I now listen to Levin.

Better yet — have Plante do the morning drive show, and transplant Laura Ingraham from WTNT to WMAL from 9 - Noon.
But in all seriouseness, I just want Plante to be right where he is! I know it’s just a rumor, but, once Plante was moved from evenings to daytime a few years ago, his “mojo” and “intensity” died down because he had to somewhat ‘behave’ for the mid-morning crowd, which is more, shall I say, ‘demure’ and ‘mature’. I cannot imagine for the life of me Plante cutting to traffic & weather every 10 minutes or so. Plante needs to just be a radio talk show host who talks about the issues of the day with no other distractions.
Gee whiz...I really like those guys. What a disappointment.
