Time to lay off Mitt bashing? Mitt, Bachmann and Palin are the only ones speaking up?
(vanity)

Truth in advertising:

I've been an off and on, Mitt Romney supporter.

By and large, off. But I'm beginning to wonder if maybe Mitt deserves a second look.

Since you pinged Jim Thompson to the thread.

I realize I’m straying perilously close to the edge here.

So I just added a pledge to the FReepathon. :)

How "Romnesque" of you.

Sorry, I just cannot forgive MittCare, which laid the groundwork for Obamacare.

You should be thankful for MassCare as an example of how even with good intentions government run healthcare is a failure. Without these types of experiments conducted at the state level, conservatives would never be in a postion to point out the real world failures of the type of program Obama proposes.

It’s a matter of trust. How many times do you let someone tell you “I’ve changed, I’m a new man, got it all right now, you can trust me, bla bla bla” In a sense, I don’t blame ambitious, unprincipled people from jumping on a popular bandwagon to get money, power, and fame. That’s sort of a natural phenomenon. </sarc> What really bugs me are all the ordinary people so preoccupied with the ordinary affairs of ordinary life they let people like that get away with it through sheer disinterest. Especially if they look like Superman. After all, Superman must be on our side, right?

But when it really matters to them, do they hire the applicant with a long history of both competence and character, or do they hire based on good looks and the promises made on the morning of the last interview? If they are successful, it is the former, whereas the latter opens you up to be victimized by any snake oil salesman passing through town.

Without a long history of a consistent moral vision, clearly reflected in policy and practiced over a lifetime, there is no basis for trust, and without a rational basis for trust, there can be no true leadership. Mitt looks great and argues well, but he is unqualified to lead. Next applicant please….

When did Romney “stand up”?
Did he “stand up” when Team Romney attacked Gov. Palin and her children
on the eve of Election 2008? I think not.

When did Romney “stand up”?
While Gov.Palin and America were working hard trying to stop ObamaCARE
where was the most-RINO backstabber-in-chief Mitt “I walked with MLK” Romney?

ANSWER: Hiding, sending out his manipulators,
selling his (ghostwritten) book,
helping Gore push the fraud of climate change,
(true to form) attacking the "tea party",
and buying votes in the straw polls.

MITT ROMNEY EXPOSED BUYING VOTES
NEW ORLEANS -- I spoke to a young female delegate who said she planned to vote for
Romney in the poll. I asked her how she had ended up at the conference.
She said "Evangeli cals for Mitt" had contacted her and offered to pay for her to have a
limited-access ticket -- so long as she agreed to vote for Romney in the straw poll.
Asked how "Evangelicals for Mitt" got her name, she said she didn't know. But she said
that she was on the email list for Romney, and speculated that the Romney team
had given out their email list. “

Yeah. I don’t hear any other possible presidential candidates like Daniels of Indiana opening his mouth. Santorum has been sounding off, but he’s less of a national figure. Someone with knowledge of how markets and the economy works has more clout than someone who’s been nothing all his life but a politician.

Romney’s Massachusetts healthcare is a disaster but at least he keeps repeating it’s up to the states to decide how they want to reform healthcare. Left wing Massachusetts went for a government controlled option. Romney’s argument has been a true federalist one—don’t impose a national system, let states develop their own plans. He’s never said that he wants to reform healthcare from the top down or impose a national plan like Obamacare.

Do it the federalist way. That enables you to see what works and what doesn’t. And, by the way, Romney has consistently said he opposes amnesty or comprehensive immigration reform. What’s Palin’s stance on that issue? She certainly didn’t buck McCain when she ran with him. She never, to my knowledge, has spoken out on that issue. She said nothing about it in her book.

Sorry. If you’re a Republican with presidential aspirations, I want to know where you stand on illegal immigration and Affirmative Action, and H1B visas. That’s my litmus test for candidates.

Like McCain, Romney would be the choice of the MSM, and would lose to Obama.

If Romney were the nominee, there would be a major independent Tea Party candidate running for President.

Like you said, we have to hope the Party establishment has learned it's lesson.

Mitt deserves a second look? Please the man represents everything that is wrong with the party!!

His ineptitude and mishandling is exactly why gay marriage is an issue.

He mandated that people be taxed simply for breathing! That is NOT remotely conservative... This man is a fake, a fraud and needs to go the way of the Dodo and the Awk. He’s welcome to be in the party but there is no way he, or that other schmuck Huckabee have any business being considered for Presidential candidates.

Mitt not only is a schmuck, but he’s a lying schmuck who tries to portray his liberal actions as somehow the heir to Reagan conservatism, the man is a fraud and a liar.

Mitt Romney deserves a second look the very day that Obamacare deserves a second look. Here's my thinking: MassachusettsCare, passed when Mitt was Governor and supported it, is showing the same failures that are predicted for ObamaCare. Higher costs, higher medical premiums, and rationing of care.

Romney would kick away any criticism of ObamaCare. And as of how, that is the biggest and most effective issue the Republicans have,

Mitt has many problems and Mittcare is the biggest. He also took only 11 states in the last Prez race and I suspect that he will not do as well in the next race.

I am not sure why he is being pushed so hard by the RNC. They need to take a hard look at the guy and his ability to win. I just don’t think he has it.

And I have no interest in his Mittcare.

You make a decent point, but along the same lines, we can point to running a state as an “experiment” at running the country. Thus, both MittCare and Romney himself have proven failures at the state level. Despite that, we got Obamacare. Let’s learn at least one of the two offerred lessons and jetison Romney.

Not really true. Socialism is so well understood experimentally there was no excuse for trying it here in any state. Therefore, only two causations remain possible. Either the architects of Romneycare didn’t know that what they were doing had already been proven a failure, or they didn’t care. Ignorance or malice. Tough choice.

YEAH, by ALL means!!! As conservatives we’ve done SOOOOO well with those “lesser of two evils” candidates. You know...like Juan McCain! Think of the passion HE engendered in the party base, especially after ENDORSING his friggin’ opponent!!!!!

>If we bash each other like in the 2008 Primaries, then we will end up pointing fingers at each other again, and they will get reelected. It’s ours to lose.<

So, we do not allow the press to nominate our candidate, a la McCain. Romney is detested by a huge segment of the conservative population of this country. You do not nominate an individual who is poison to your base.

Uh, Palin supports Juan McCain? WTF?

she is leaving the dance with the one who brung her....nothing more, nothing less.

it is called loyalty and I am sure she hates every minute of it....and cant wait till he loses the primary so she can happily back the winner in the general election.
