“If you can believe many of the reports in the UFO literature, a lot of these ETs have no compunctions about interacting with humans, or with revealing themselves”

I don’t believe for one minute that those reports are of genuine ET’s. I believe the answer to that is much closer to home. Let me explain it this way. A society that has mastered intergalactic travel is not going to fly to earth, and crash in the desert.

We’re still confined to a small part of our solar system. When we overcome that, then I suspect we would be monitored very closely. Right now, I doubt we even raise alien eyebrows.

The sudden appearance of reported UFO sightings is date co-incident with our dropping the first atomic bombs on Japan.

Ever since that time, there have been sightings reported around the world. Prior to that time, these reports were exceedingly rare. So rare, in fact, that they went almost unnoticed in the press.

I can think with your logic, though. Once an advanced race discovered that our space travel technology is in its infancy, you'd think that they would greatly reduce their surveillance.

But --- what if our space travel technology is more advanced than our government is letting on? Think the aliens might keep a closer watch on us?

Perhaps that's the reason we continue to see reports in the press about UFO sightings.

Even if their GPS is broken?

That’s an intriguing possibility. If our space program is more advanced that what we believe, then yes I would think some space faring race out there would be more likely to keep tabs on us. If only to make sure we’re not out to rape and pillage the galaxy.

If they can bend space and time and travel to earth it’s a pretty safe bet they’ve left GPS and brake failure long behind lol

I guess we are sort of like the North Korea threat or maybe the Venezuela threat?

...we should NOT be trying to contact aliens, because any alien form that can HEAR us and be able to COME to us will NOT be benevolent ....they are not making that huge journey for fun and kicks. It is not prudent.

Totally agree.

I once knew a guy who I can only describe as "spiritually advanced". This guy could read minds (I kid you not) and foretell events in the near-term future with great accuracy (which was scary). He could do a whole lot of other unbelievable things that I won't go into here, but he told me a story once that really adjusted my reality on aliens.

According to this fellow, he was sitting in his house late one night, when he heard a deep humming sound, and saw a bright light emanating from his back yard. He went to investigate, and saw a small circular craft hovering a couple of feet off the ground.

As he watched, a hatch opened, and two very human looking people got out and walked toward him. He perceived that they weren't there to harm him, so he didn't flee.

He claimed that they "spoke" to him via some thought process, and asked if he'd like to take a ride. In that moment, he said that he perceived something deeper about them, which wasn't exactly warm and fuzzy, so he told them, "no thanks."

According to this guy, the aliens then departed, and didn't return.

Now, I'm not claiming that this story is true, but knowing this fellow, I had no reason to disbelieve him, and quite a lot of reasons to accept his testimony as true.

Well personally I don’t believe humanity is a threat, but then again I’m biased :) That doesn’t mean however some Alien out there might not see it a little bit differently

...what if we are (due to computers and other high tech) on the verge of significant breakthroughs, we might be becoming a problem faster than we think.

That is definitely a possibility. Or - our technology may already be more advanced than the general public is aware of.

We know for a fact that our military-industrial complex is at least ten years ahead in development of technological systems than they admit. That's just on the standard military hardware front. What about deeper projects that even the boys at the Skunk Works aren't aware of?

I've read about such deep projects, though I don't know for a fact that they exist. If I did, I'm certain that I'd be six feet under for "knowing too much."

My comparison was of threats that are real... proven.... as opposed to those unknown.

In the grand scheme of things, the threat from us to some alien civilization would be equivalent to the threat of No. Korean or Venezuela to the USA.

Good point.

I'm sure you've read the stories about the US gov't capturing alien craft and reverse-engineering them to build their own. Perhaps they did that, and a lot of those early prototypes crashed. Dunno.

On the other hand, who knows what sort of hardware failures might befall a UFO? A lot of people don't believe that those craft are for interstellar travel, but are only for interplanetary and close-earth use anyway. It's entirely possible that something in our atmosphere could interrupt their guidance systems, etc.

There were a lot of reports of crashed saucers in the 40's, but fewer and fewer as time went by. Perhaps our visitors sorted out what was interfering with their guidance systems and fixed it.

Interesting stuff to contemplate.

At our present stage of development I think the comparison would be more like a toddler on a tricycle fighting the combined armies of NATO, technology wise. And if our leaders have their way, our tricycle won’t even have two back wheels.

It would be one explanation for the continuing reports of UFOs in our skies, wouldn't it?

This stuff is fun to speculate on, but I'm like most people - I'm kind of an agnostic about it in some ways. Bottom line - there's what I know, and then there's what I believe.

Shucks, we're probably more on the scale of the Papua New Guinea threat. Don't let 'em off the island or them cannibals will eat ya!

I believe that is a fact.
I believe that we have or will have shortly computers that can "think" well beyond what a human can conceive of (even our smartest) and give us answers well beyond our capabilities to come up with on our own.
This may be a double edge sword, both very good and very bad.

I think the whole Roswell thing is a scam and I’ll explain why. First, like I said a technologically advanced race is not going to come here. And if they do come here, they are not going to smash into the desert. It defies logic.

Now it’s 1947. World War II has just ended and the cold war is just getting started. I’m seeing communists everywhere and the Russians already have my nuke secrets. The Rosenbergs taught me a hard lesson. Now I’m out in the desert playing with high tech stuff and it works. (or fails miserably) And people see stuff. The media gets wind of it. However you look at it, the secret is out and it wont be contained for long. So, my options are to misdirect and confuse. I plant evidence of a coverup. I plant false stories and fake evidence and then deny that evidence. It works because I know the people have an inherent mistrust of the government and the more I deny, the more you believe. In the end, I’ve got you so confused you don’t know what to believe. You will believe the alien story because its far more exciting than the mundane truth. You are looking for aliens and while I’m off quietly working on deep black projects. It works because people so desperately want to believe they are not alone.
