In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
defalcation \dee-fal-KAY-shun\ noun
1 : the act or an instance of embezzling
2 : a failure to meet a promise or an expectation.
"'She made off with the money, an act of defalcation that disqualifies her from receiving a bankruptcy discharge,' the judge ruled."
--Orlando Sentinel, March 21, 2004
"The tea table shall be set forth every morning with its customary bill of fare, and without any manner of defalcation." No reference to embezzlement there! This line, from a 1712 issue of Spectator magazine, is an example of the earliest, and now archaic, sense of "defalcation," which is simply defined as "curtailment." "Defalcation" is ultimately from the Latin word "falx," meaning "sickle" (a tool for cutting), and it has been a part of English since the 1400s. It was used early on of monetary cutbacks (as in "a defalcation in their wages"), and by the 1600s it was used of most any sort of financial reversal (as in "a defalcation of public revenues"). Not till the mid-1800s, however, did "defalcation" refer to breaches of trust that cause a financial loss, or, specifically, to embezzlement.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
I was a little worried about the turkey. It was up in the air before I realized what he was doing. I think it may have been a hen that he scared off her nest. I hope she comes back. It’s hard to tell a hunting dog not to hunt.
Wild turkeys are clever. She should be moving her chicks when the coast is clear. My dogs live to chase squirrels. They ignore all the other wildlife.
LMAO! thanks Ti!
Our current foster dog, Nemo, is a prize. He picked up the potty training extremely quickly and is very good about asking out. He freely and willingly goes into the crate at night when we tell him to crate, and he doesn’t bark at all until he wakes up at about 6:00 am and needs to go outside to pee. He barks a couple of times to let us know he needs to go out and then waits for us to come get him. His only behavioral “fault” is that he wants to chew on every sock, shoe, towel, or pillow that he finds, so we have to redirect him to the right toys, but even that is pretty easy. He will be having surgery in a couple of weeks to have the bad front leg removed. I am confident that once he gets used to being free of the pain that he has in that leg and gets proficient at navigating around on three legs, he is going to be extremely playful and fun (he already is, but he will be moreso when he doesn’t have to deal with his deficient leg) and will be adopted very quickly.
OMG. Squirrels are Robbie's and Lilah's delight. They chase them and bark at them. But they also love to chase gheckos, and Robbie likes to chase snakes too.
Robbie would have had a field day at our house this past year. We’ve lived here over 15 years and had only seen one green grass snake until this last year, when we had the 3.5- 4 ft. long king snake, 4.5 ft gray rat snake, and the little 18-22 inch banded king snake. The last one was found swimming in the pool. I’d like to go another 15 years without seeing any more!
I’m here, but do think the dog has eaten my homework.
and how is that huge dog of yours? I forget her name...
I just love your big lug of a guv! you are lucky...looks like I am about to get cuomo,jr...the clinton administration reject.
Welcome back and shame on Lulubelle!
they are not perfect, but i love them both : )
SG i just rediscovered photobucket, i can upload your oliver pic and post if you want me to>?
both Rush and Sean are harping today on theOne’s lunch with bjclinton.....I am pretty sure it was a command performance so O can complain about his boy carvelle’s rant. Neither of them are thinking along those lines. I can just imagine the arrogantOne’s condescending lecture now. LOL
THAT’s her name.........gees, I must be getting old!
Yes! more pics of our pets.....I love them.
Absolutely, if you don’t mind!
Maybe the last one of King Oliver the Timid, since it doesn’t have the big old collies in there with him.
Ollie and his chum Chum
THey look perfect to me. Cavalier King Charles?
yes. Lucius [the blenheim] and Chanel [the tricolor]. not perfect because they will still poop in the house if it’s really rainy outside, bc they don’t like getting wet....
and i swear the “nose” pic your kiddo took is on a mug somewhere with a ‘THE DOG’ tm on it!
Well done! Thank you! That’s Oliver, the Bichon Spaniel with his step-bros, Chumley and Hammish.
i don’t know if my comp is better or photobucket is better, but in the past i had BAD luck with uploading pix and this worked like a charm for me today.
I don’t know how you get them to sit still and not wind up as The Dog nose pics.
you do really need chum in the pic to give the size perspective, bc just looking at the pic of oliver, alone, he doesn’t look all that small, but when you see him with chumley you can get a better idea of his size.
Max has an 12-18 hr bladder. He doesn’t like to get wet either, but he’ll follow me off the porch if I walk out into the rain and then gets his bizness done ASAP.
xsfrosh took that pic of them, just impromptu, one afternoon bc she needed it for a school project and it is literally THE BEST pic of them ever taken since we have had them. i was floored. no red eye, no NOSE perspective etc.
we send them out via the open garage door and they will run out and back in, so it’s not ALWAYS when it rains, but they will have the occasional accident. and they prefer the oriental rugs, of course!
Haha - she’s cuter and has a better pedigree
and i have her BIRTH CERTIFICATE!
She’s LulaBelle & unless she’s stalking & chasing squirrels, she is totally worthless!
Glad to be back..how is everyone been?
Ollie is gorgeous......don’t see much of the bichon in him though. I can see why you brought him home.
there ya go...another leg up
his name is oliver, i just said “here’s OLLIE” to mimic “here’s JOHNNY”.
GOOD LORD is it hot, i just went out to turn the hose on some stuff i planted and i am dripping wet with sweat. 95 degs here!
ollie ollie in free........LOL ok, Oliver. hot here today as well....I love central air.
believe me i keep it as crisp as a florist shop in the house.
He was shaved recently since he was a puppy mill dog. He has the short snout and small size.
That’s how my youngest calls for him! Ollie Ollie Oxen Free!
I am literally ROR here about your birther snobby pose pupster!
When Annapolis beat the Colorado cadet team, the whole Navy team celebrated their defalconation success ....
That cry comes from our old days (but you know - xsex might only barely remember them though) when the kids were paying tag.
“All Ye! All Ye!! In come free!!” meant somebody had been tagged near the base and everybody else playing could come in “free” and start over.
Take it over and hire the exact same contractors to do what they are already doing, but pay them with much prettier US Treasury checks.
That’s nice, but my cats never need their anal glands “expressed.” ;-)
we say channy, do obama, and thats what she does!
no redeeming qualities, lack of anal glands notwithstanding.
LOL........you should send the clip to Fox and Friends....Channel could be a star I tell ya!
better yet, she could be an overnight youtube sensation!
