Hi I’ve got this 55’ Chevy with auto transmission. It wont auto shift into higher 3rd gear. I’ve got the tranny apart and on a workbench. What do I do?

Just tighten the armiture spocket. This will help in the flow of the dynaflo. E Norton

Sorry for the confusion...you are gonna need a 2nd computer connected to the internet and a flash drive.

if your sons computer is a dell...goto dell.com
if its an HP goto HP.com etc..find the home page for your make of computer. find downloads and support...enter your model number then download with your browser and save to flash drive....then install driver from your flash drive into your sons computer....honest this is very easy to fix...i just type stupid!!

He was trying to be funny....As a old powerglide driver, I got the joke. It does only have two gears but lays rubber in both.

He has told us how smart he is and all he knows but he hasn’t offered any help....all talk! Nice analysis. BTW what have you done lately and what is your contribution to this thread besides being part of the peanut gallery.
By the look of the responses, people dont know if hes got a dell or an HP, advice not to plug into a cable modem directly. Did he say he had a cable modem? ...Its the usual circus help because the guy isn't competent enough to search tech-help articles on the internet.
My advice is to use an external USB wifi antenna/adapter preferably with a software disk or a USB network adapter. This with the software will run automatically, then you can check the plethora of things that might be the problem. Which can include multiple driver installs mucking things up, unidentified network card,a service that is turned off...the list is endless and helping someone like this without being on the phone for him to be your hands and eyes....is pretty fricking ridiculous. Like this thread!

Your ISP should have given you a CD to install the necessary drivers for the internet cable/dsl modem.

Find the CD and run the installer.

If you no longer have it, you may need to contact them for instructions on how to obtain the drivers from their web site with a computer that is online, or they may have to send you another install CD

I’m running WXP SP3 and my O/S recognizes my RCA cable modem, but your situation is likely different.

Damn!

I didn't buy a great car (in '63 or '64) because I thought 3rd was burnt.

When you first install XP Pro there is not adapter built in to the OS load even though XP wants to try

Go to Control Panel, add hardware and let it search for the adapter

If it does not find it I would ask if you have the driver disk for the card itself, unless Windows XP has it and can make the adapter

If you are updating on a system like a Dell ir HP then you can obtain this from the accessories disk which will load it and then when you reboot it will be there. Then you can go to Control Panel, Network and setup your connection

If you have any further questions message me directly and I will help you

Even a Powerglide has 3 gears, low, drag, and race!

The shift selector was labeled thusly: P N D L R

When you shove it into race get out your dustpan and broom!

And that, dear friends is because no matter what speed you are traveling when you yank that shifter down into "R" (for race), that Powerglide WILL drop into "R". And parts will fly.

And your engine will stall. And if the innards don't become outerds, you will be the proud owner of a terminal hemorrhage (pour trans fluid in the top, watch it come out the bottom...) Not that I learned any of this from driving a '56 Chevy model 210 hardtop with the 265 c.i. V8... Did get over 100,000 miles on it before I upgraded to a '64 Chevelle.

I had a ‘55 4-door Bel-Air with a 265 and a Powerglide.
My first car, bought for $50 in 1970, actually, truly, from a little old lady. Mint, hardly any miles.

You may have tried this...but have you unplugged your router, pulled the power to it and let it sit. Then turned off your computer. Turn everything back on (router first).

Someone posted they called the Internet service provider tech and it reminded me that this was all it took with XP.

You need access to a computer.
First carefully move all the tranny parts to one side of your workbench, then go into the house and use that computer to order a decent performance transmission online. It will be delivered to your house and you can it bolt right up.

Next go back out to your workbench, look at the old tranny and ask yourself, “What was I thinking???”

Often if you even switch the USB port a device is attached to... Windows will reload a device driver. These days USB port sets are on different chipsets on the motherboard - thus when moved the device is seen as ‘new’...

One just needs to go to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager and - if a device is not working you’ll see a red or yellow flag or an indication that it is simply not installed by absence of an entry - Like Network Adapters.
