My company may go union...now what?

Posted on 08/01/2010 2:51:29 PM PDT by Yorlik803

I came home from work monday to find a letter from the Teamsters saying that one of my co-workers expressed interest in the union coming in and setting up shop. After first swearing to find the moron who wrote the Teamsters and have a little talk with him, It came to me that this might really happen. The other day the owners had a labor lawyer come in and tell the managers and owners what can happen, including threats, vandalism, giant inflatable rats in front of their homes and other stuff. I admit that my company could maybe pay a little more, but this is the same place that bent over backwards to advoid laying off people in the winter, and scraped up enough to pay Christmas bonuses. Am I silly to give them a little loyality? They have been decent to me and I bear them no malice. My bosses are nice guys. They realize we bust our rear ends and that sometimes we take a little downtime to shoot the breeze. And if we are all caught up, they even join in and talk about women, guns and life in general. With a union, all this ends. They have to become hardasses because if they dont, they will be fired and replaced with people who dont know or care about us. I am asking the question to all those who have been thru this: What can I and my co-workers expect? There have been rumblings that the company might even shut down to advoid dealing with the union. Thanks in advance for all those who answer and can offer advice.

If they come on your property call the police. If it’s obvious they are not going to win they will move on. They are lazy, lame people who only go for the low hanging fruit.

you are not forced to join a union even if they win since you an existing employee.
in many states you can opt out.
contact your bosses and notify them you have been harrassed by the union which is illegal and
notify them it was just one person that contacted them.

the union must have more than one person to force a vote so it smells like a set up and lies about how many people contacted the union which is common.

fight the teamster .its easy to win but you must
staY ORGRANIZED.

A group of employees tried to bring in a union where I used to work. A group of us (anti-union) attended their meetings. They knew we were anti, but can’t keep you out. No help from management. But it lets you know what they are up to. Easier to fight them that way. Stay armed if possible. They’ll use violence. Stay in groups (we did). You can fight them. Be armed with knowledge of what changes the union will make. Don’t be afraid to rat out rats.

If your company goes Union, unless you are in a Right to Work state you really have no choice but to join.

Not true, but you will have to pay an administrative fee or some part of the union dues. You don't have to join and you have Beck Rights which means you do not have to pay political campaign contributions.

notify your boss that IT WAS ONE PERSON.
NOTIFY your boss that the union is harassing you which is illegal.
have coworkers also notify the boss of unwanted contact.
your not forced to join a union and even if they win the vote you can opt out.

its very easy to stop this union crap. at my work place there is always some push and the staff just complains about the union harassment and they go away for a few years .
but get organized and work with your bosses to
stop these goon.
the unions will lie about how many people contacted them until you force them to prove it .
but the union vermin will be hiding ready to pounce thanks to thanks to the Dumbo coworker.

The reality is that the unions never play fair, at least in my experience. I worked for a non-union company in southern California in the 1980’s. The union tried very hard to unionize our staff. They promised them they would double their wages, even though we were paying higher than the union guys were earning for the same job down the street. They picketed our building with signs that implied our own employees were on strike when we weren't even unionized. And so on. Our strategy was to talk openly and often with our employees and tell them the facts. In the end we prevailed. Our people simply didn't buy the union propaganda.

...but this is the same place that bent over backwards to advoid laying off people in the winter, and scraped up enough to pay Christmas bonuses.

And remind your co-workers of this.

If your wo5rking conditions are safe and the company meets all the conditions required by law as minimum, you don't need an onion (sic).

The magic number is 30% to hold a vote, then they need 50+1% to prevail.

Where I work, when the union came in, we immediately ceased to receive merit or longevity increases. Now, everybody, no matter how useless, gets the same straight percentage increase and we often go two or three years with a contract or increase of any kind.

The union sucks.

I have been very vocal against unions. I tell these younger guys that you might think unions are good, but what good are they when you are on the dole?
Unions serve unions. They are unlike parasite because parasite have to keep the host alive. Unions are cancer. They kill everything they touch.
What really scares me is the violence. The Teamsters are not playing around. I dont worry so much for myself because I am a single, heavily armed male. Its the family guys that might start getting bricks tossed thru their window, tires slashed and late night phone calls.
I have never been in a union. I never wanted to be in a union. Unions goes against everything that America stands for.

Unless things have changed, they will ask the workers to sign something saying they want to heat the union’s side of the story. They will lie to say what is signed commits no one to anything. Enough signatures will force the company to allow them onto company property to work on the workers.

As someone else said, sign nothing.

The unions follow the tradition of rising through the chairs. So do the Democrats which is why you occasionally see totally corrupt, but elderly, new candidates for Congress in Chicago ~ it's "their turn".

It's very difficult to infiltrate and bust through that kind of structure without finding someone to walk into a central committee meeting wearing a suicide belt or something and just removing the whole local structure.

The alternative is to do the organizing yourself but that only works with "office workers".

Just say you dont like unions because your union dues shouldnt be going to political candidates who may be pro abortion or anti capitalist. There was a teacher who wanted all her union dues back because she was pro life and her union was giving money to a pro choice candidate and she actually won the lawsuit.

Unions, due to crooked leaders are declining except in government areas. Its no shock that unions due well getting entrenched in government jobs. They are assisted by crooked politicians that receive money from their union thug conterparts for campaigns.

Private sector union members are only as good to deal with as their leaders and unfortunately in most cases those leaders are corrupt.

Right now the taxpayers are on the hook for exorbitant pension payouts to government union members by virtue of union thugs.

Not a pretty picture.

A company I used to work for successfully fought unions several times by the distribution of anonymous educational cartoons. They contained info showing how the comapny provided for employees. How much union dues cost vs the benefits the employees got. How much freedom the employees give up. And how the union recruits internal people to talk up the union to get special benefits not offerred to everyone else.

It was very effective. But what the company also did overall was basically set up a union style program of elected employees to bargain with the company and from an outside perspective make the need for a union mute.

mute moot.

Sorry. Character flaw on my part. Every time I see or hear that mistake I have an irresistable urge to correct it.
