Rubios is a rather second rate chain. IMHO. Too clean and modern to make killer Mexican food. ;)

I have heard of a Lynxus Rufus (Bobcat) what, pray-tell, is a Verginius Rufus?

Del Taco is all right. Prices are reasonable. My wife suspects they use TVP in their beef, however. (I don’t argue, she has a great palate)

I was told that not long ago by a Mexican woman who lives in San Diego (legal immigrant) that Rubio's isn't so good--at least she doesn't care for their food.

Verginius Rufus was a Roman general who twice refused his soldiers' efforts to put him forward as emperor (AD 68-69 period). He was consul three times and when he died the historian Tacitus gave the eulogy. He symbolizes the fact that there can be decent and honorable people even when those at the head of the government are totally corrupt--or incompetent.

THANKS!

I like Diocletian. He divided the Empire into two more manageable pieces, and then retired. When an old friend wrote to him and asked him to take up the sword again to stop the inevitable corruption injustice etc, he wrote back...

“If you could see the size of the vegetables I grow in my garden by my own hand, you would not talk to me any more of Empires.”

Del Taco failed in Texas for a reason...they were competing with Taco Bell for who could market crap the best.

Bonus Round Question:

*Why did Taco Bell change the item frijoles to pintos & cheese?

Unless I am mistaken, and this isn't one of my better days, there was a Del Taco located on Oaklawn Ave. right down the street from the Dallas World Trade Center, where I worked, in the early 80's.

Looks like I was right.

Maybe a university study has found that “Mexican style
chains” (restaurants) “were most likely to make you
ill” but my own study has found that almost all
universities make ME sick.

....enjoy.

“You are delusional....California wasn’t ruined by people from the midwest...it became a socialist shit hole from spoiled 2nd and 3rd generation Californians who have no work ethic. I was part of a hotel operation that opened a hotel in the early 80’s out in the armpit of SoCal in Ontario....when I questioned why someone wasn’t at work I was told..”The surf’s up”.....when I told a manager to fire the SOB...I was told...well we just have have to hire another just like him/her...that my friend is why California is in the shape they are in.....”The surf isn’t up anymore”...”

I have to agree with Amima Mundi....You use Ontario as your concept of what California is/was like? Really? Ontario - the gateway to Fontana. Used to be run down grape vineyards and now it’s just concrete and rooftops. I was born and raised in SoCal and it was a paradise. Now, not so much. We all used to hope that it would be a crappy day when the Rose Parade was on tv so everyone watching in the cold and snow wouldn’t pack up and move out....

As for Del Taco....love it and miss it. Bean and cheese burritos with red or green sauce..and their Double Del Burger...yum! Now I gotta hope they come to Houston...

Surfs up! Grab your board, dude!!

I could have swore I ate at a Del Taco when passing through Texas once. Just another example of the memory not always being reliable...

"Del Taco = slightly better than Taco Bell but not as good as any roach coach."

No self respecting Texan is going to eat Taco Bell thats not even Tex-mex yuck I would rather eat road kill. If you have the stomach to eat roach coach and not get sick DFW has plenty of authentic taco trucks running around. One comes up to campus at brunch time to our construction site giant tacos for like a buck 50. None of the kids have the stomachs to eat it, I do I spent years eating coach food in Austin...Drunk East Riverside Drive at 4am outside Club Carnival yum I can still taste the AL Pastor

Just reading through your stuff ~ and caught the Callender's sewage thing. That's the one we go to from the inlaws off Palomar.

Did they get it fixed yet? Sending the spouse out next week and she'll want to check it.

There are various styles of Mexican food. TexMex is just one.

One I don't prefer.

If you're not already here in Texas make this another reason not to move here.

Thanks
