Have been using Paypal for 4 years and when I shop online I appreciate seeing merchants that accept Paypal. Never had a problem, having used Paypal for sending and accepting payments on my eBay auctions. Paypal is also very aggressive in pursuing phishing emails, if you forward them on to the security department.
I have had two recent credits to my CC. Purchased fraudulent software, quick refund on the first, the other I had to escalate several times but got the refund in the end.
PayPal is great when everything works properly.
The ****** me over on a purchase (not eBay) that was improperly packed and arrived damaged.
They supported the seller and not the buyer.
Ironically, most of the complaints on eBay are exactly the opposite. It’s the seller that gets the shaft, aided and abetted by eBay’s screwy feedback policy.
If I wanted to buy your product/service and paypal was the only way {why not offer a credit card also} I'd pass on your stuff.
That's just me, you said you want true input.
I love PayPal. Easy, efficient, and great for foreign currency transactions too.
I was initially very wary of Paypal. I had read many horror stories online. However, I had several friends who loved it.
A few years ago, my credit card processor began raising fees and adding new ones. Then they demanded we become complaint in security protocols that turned out to be invasive and expensive and also left us open to huge liability scenarios. I then changed my business to Paypal, check or M.O. only.
I also use Paypal as an eBay seller and to pay for various online purchases.
They do accept credit cards and then they do charge off about 5% to the seller, if I read it correctly, but that has never happened to me. Their fees are much lower than any credit card processor.
My husband used them with his credit card to make an online purchase and they did bombard him with offers to join Paypal. He was annoyed and refused to create an account. After a while, they stopped sending him emails and now, I will simply pay for his online orders out of my account. It makes no sense to me, but he is a curmudgeon about it, so I just do it to make things more pleasant. ;)
I have had zero problems. I do keep the amount held in the checking account coupled to Paypal to a minimum, just in case. I have never had a dispute or any funds withheld. I like that I can purchase something online for a cash equivalent instead of using a credit card.
Most of my customers seem to take Paypal for granted and there have been no real problems, although a few have refused to log in to my site and that makes their credit cards impossible to process thru Paypal, but that is an extremely few customers and they usually opt to telephone and use a check. Some are just confused and paranoid about online purchases, as well, and are probably much older, so that is not really revealing w/regard to Paypal.
You dont require an account to pay via paypal, just a valid credit/debit card. If you don’t have one of those, then yes, it will force them to open an account, so that it can tie directly to their bank account. I really don’t like that option.
Do you like gladiator movies?
How do you manage to purchase things and get paid for it?
Do share.
IMHO ... The ONLY reason to use PayPal is if your customer base has their own PayPal accounts through which to pay you. If your customers are all Ebay for example, I would recommend you have a PayPal account. If NOT then look into something like GoEmerchant or Authorize.Net for a simple system to set up links which accept any credit card you are willing to pay the fees to accept.
I’ve been doing electronic credit card processing since 1993 and just got a PayPal account a year or so ago when I put some stuff up on Ebay. Otherwise ...
The trick is to move funds out of the account as soon as they hit it. Banks can usually set up a sweep facility for you.
I sell stuff on eBAY...and I am basically forced to use PayPal. I don't like it...but eBAY is the 800 lb gorilla. I would like to offer people the option to pay me...money order, personal check, even cash if they want to. But you can't offer that on eBAY...anymore.
That all said....I have had zero problems with PayPal...They take their cut, and I figure that's the cost of doing business.
They supposedly have a habit of siding on the "buyer's" side...but that's never happened to me yet.
All in all....it's a decent way to get paid on-line.
Gpal.com is out there now....but lot's of growing pains.
Oh one last thing....PayPal is very politically correct..They monitor what you sell. No guns, no ammo...etc. And they will cancel your account.
PROVIDED YOU DON'T SELL ON EBAY!
From personal experience many moons ago and from what I've heard from MANY others, IF there is any dispute from any customer (or for ANY reason Ebay--who just happen to "own" Pay Pal--decides to arbitrarily "freeze" your account, you can ALMOST kiss your money goodbye and after a year of battling Ebay/Paypal, I gave up and lost $1,300.
I'm not conversant as to how that would work otherwise, but do some due diligence before jumping into this service.
SEE: http://www.aboutpaypal.org/paypal_sucks and read the "Horror Stories" listed on the sidebar.
PS: I have never had any problem buying anything using Paypal and use it (when absolutely necessary) when making purchases on Ebay
I have been using PayPal to accept payments for over 2 years now. It allows me to accept credit cards with no monthly fee and my customers are all comfortable with it. No problems at all.
As a big on-line consumer, I REFUSE to have anything to do with Paypal. To the point that if I come across a seller that only accepts Paypal, I'll move on to another website.
Many sellers have lost sales by only accepting Paypal.
NO they are a anti 2nd Amendment BASTARD Org.
I don’t like ebay, google, or paypal.
One of my friends accepts paypal (for internet purchases from his store), and he’s ok with it.
” PS: I have never had any problem buying anything using Paypal and use it (when absolutely necessary) when making purchases on Ebay”
My experience is just that. Making small purchases on Ebay. I’ve never sold anything.
Check out PaypalSucks.com - that will enlighten anybody. I have an account - only because that’s the only means to buy/sell on Ebay (Ebay owns PayPal you know). Hardly ever use them since I don’t sell on Ebay anymore.
