My departed Newf was called Boomer, but I should have called him Velcro with all the leaves and snow balls that stuck to him as he entered the back door.

Lab was called Jake. New lab pup is Coal, for Charcoal. Not too creative, but, the whistle makes them come in a hurry. Happy tails to the new pup.

Names with hard consonants are easier for your dog to hear. The last dog I had I named Tok, after Tok junction in Alaska. It was the perfect combination of consonants.

We had a “Barkley” once. She could carry a basketball around in her mouth, was black and grouchy.

I heard never to name a dog a person’s name.

My dad has a dog named "Greta" and a lady moved in his condo unit with the same name. Dad was pretty embarassed when he was yelling at the dog one day and saw the lady looking at him like he was the devil.

I don’t care what other people say, I like simple “human” names for pets - at least, the normal, biggish pets.

I’ve had/known:
Cindy
Shana
Tara
Scarlett (simple?)
Rhett
Ashley
Elsa

Or other simple names like Misty, but not silly, dopey “dog” names like “Spot” or “Patches” or “Fluffy”. Sorry, I just don’t like them (although I had a wonderful cat as a child named Buffy - but that was not my fault).

If he is very affectionate, you could name him “Jack Daniels” because he’s a good licker!

My GSD’s name is Falco. I wanted to name him Elvis, but my bride of 38 years won the discussion.... “Yes Dear” always wins.

Now, when I have trouble naming something and all else fails, I name the creature after a duck I had when I was a kid, “Fred”.

I recently named one of my new Muscovy ducks “Fred” and another one “Elvis”.

Of course this won’t help in your case, because you will never eat your dog, but the farm critters I raise for the table are all given names of democrat politicians, so that I don’t feel bad when I butcher the little bastards. :>) Six of my 26 chickens are named named “Obama one”, “Obama two”, etc. I named one “Pelosi”, but a weasel recently ate her... an omen I hope.

Good luck. Oh, how about Skippy?

Or, if he’s small and peaceful looking, how about “Killer, if he’s intimidating, call him “Peaches”.

I'd pick something that suits his personality. I had an adorable cat that was a nut so we named him Snookumfritz Nerd. There was a delicate long haired tuxedo girl we named Caroline. There was also an abused dog that we got from the shelter who had been shot. She was odd but very loving. The shelter gave her an unusual name, Andra, and we kept it as it suited her.

Just watch his personality and something will occur to you.

He won’t have any problem listening to the name Hussein. Easy to pronounce, easy to grasp.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And, easy to write in the yard after a meal.

“I was thinking of getting a dog and naming it “muslim.”

Another advantage, if he attacked someone, no one would hold him accountable.

The only advice I have is to give a name that you will not feel embarrassed to shout out while on a street corner.

Max! MAX! MMAAAAAAAXX!

Compared to:

Fifi! FIFI! FFIIIIIFFIIIIII!

Pick something that has meaning for you. Something that's a favorite of yours, perhaps. For example, I have a particular fondness for stars in the sky, so I try to give my animals star names. Our sun is a star, so I would like Sunny as a dog name.

Also favorite colors sometimes work. For this dog, you said he's part blue heeler, so Blue might be a good name. Or a variant on blue, like Cobalt, or Indigo, or Denim. In fact, with a name like Denim, you could call him Denny for short. Cobalt could give you Cobie, and Indigo could give you Indy.

You could name him after a favorite actor of yours. For example, my favorite all time is Jimmy Stewart, so for me, Jimmy would be a good name for a dog.

Also, try to keep the name to a word of one or two syllables. Dogs zone out after two, lol.
