From my experience working with all four main branches (sorry Coast Guard) - don't go in if you are after an education, though you can get that. Don't go in if you want a retirement - though you can get that too.
Only go in if you honestly desire to preserve our way of life, and defend the constitution which guarantees our freedoms. That is really the only reason to be there that makes you an asset.

I was not tall enough to get in the Coast Guard. they told me I had to be six feet tall.
That way, if the boat sank, I could walk to shore... 8-)
I have a daughter that is in the Air Force and a daughter that was a Marine. I would not recommend the Marines for a girl. Also the Marines don’t have their own medical field; they use the Navy corps men. If your young friend is interested in medicine I would recommend the Navy.
Unless things are different in your area; she might have a challenge getting into the Air Force. My 18 y/o son is trying to get into the Air Force (he wants to follow in his sister’s footsteps), he was told there is a 300 person waiting list. The recruiter suggested he take at least 15 credit hours of college to make himself as competetive as possible; in spite of the fact that he scored high on the practice ASVAB in their office. He did it cold; walked in and took it, no studying.

I’d recommend you “Go Navy.” Marines’ have a special place in their hearts for good Navy Corpsmen even if you don’t go to the field attached to a Fleet Marine Force unit.
The higher IQ of Air Force recruits may have had you confused.They like to keep things simple for the Army.
No offense, but if you cannot go the ROTC route is med school a bit of a stretch? In the army if you make an error they yell at you. In the air force they make a note.
Go national guard. They will foot the bill for school and you can live your collegiate life. AND you can get your bats faster.
Even AFN knows the truth of it; they are running a commercial where an airman has to get his buddy to help him move a box of 7.62mm ammo (about 65 lbs as I recall). It takes one soldier or two airmen to move one. I guess maybe he could have just IQ’d that heavy box where he wanted it?

I was an Army officer stationed on AF bases during my 4 years in Germany. While the Army may endeavor to "keep things simple", the Army teaches a young person far more about leadership than does the Air Force. I remember one of my platoons that had 3 E-4 "Acting Jack" squad leaders. Not one was older than 20 years old.
During Tac Evals, I spent every hour of the four day evaluation in the Wing CP, listening to AF personnel gripe about having to work 12 hour shifts. There wasn't much choice, as I was one of only two officers with a NATO TS clearance in my unit.
Since you are in a jesting mood, I remember the following joke:
What's the difference between being on welfare and being in the Air Force? When you're on welfare, you have to go get your check. The Air Force has direct deposit.
As a father, I would recommend the Air Force to a daughter, as their facilities are far better than any other branch. For my two sons, I would be proud of them for enlisting in any branch of our military. My Dad served in the Navy during WWII, and a number of uncles and cousins served in four of the five branches.
I have been watching AFN on and off since the late 70s. They have improved a lot but they have managed to keep the commercials just as lame as ever.

I was at Hahn from 77-79. I really miss the jagerschnitzels at Herr Barden’s gasthaus in Loffelscheid.
As a retired AF vet and female, I believe the best service for a female, is the AF.
