Italian scientist claims find of geoglyphs near Lake Titicaca, Peru

According to an Italian scientist, a huge network of earthworks, or geoglyphs, is visible in satellite imagery of a large area, over 463 square miles, in the surroundings of the Titicaca Lake, Peru.

Amelia Carolina Sparavigna, professor at Italy’s Politecnico di Torino, claims the patterns she discovered while studying satellite pictures near the Titicaca Lake. She says the shapes are the result of an almost unimaginable agricultural effort of Andean communities centuries ago.

“People created a system of terraced hills and raised fields, which were large elevated planting platforms, with the corresponding drainage canals, to improve soil, temperature and moisture conditions for crops. These remains of the prehistoric agricultural system are providing evidence of the impressive engineering abilities of the peoples who lived there in pre-Columbian times,” she says in her Politecnico di Torino webpage. “Among the geoglyphs there are structures which represent animals, where ponds are their eyes. Other geoglyphs are geometric drawings,” she adds.

I didn't see them at first, either, and I didn't see them in all cases. Look again, and look for birds, including a toucan.

The Nazca geoglyphs were not for “airplanes”. They were for the “Gods” to see and know the depth of belief of the people making them. The actual ability to make them wasn't too difficult; just time, manpower and a plan.

All joking aside. Ancient artifacts in Brazil, Peru, and Chile are similar to Egyptian artifacts. Today the Reed Boats of Lake Titicaca in Peru display a startling similarity to the Ancient Egyptian Reed Boats!

HEDGEHOG!?! How old are these geoglyphs geophantasamicons* supposed to be?

There are 17 species of hedgehog in five genera, found through parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and New Zealand. There are no hedgehogs native to Australia, and no living species native to North America; those in New Zealand are introduced.

In total, there are currently 14 known species of hedgehog found throughout large areas of Europe, (including the British Isles) Africa and Asia, and they have been introduced to some of the islands off the African coast, and New Zealand. The other link (.pdf) with the "animal attacking a snake" really shows a lot of imagination, but not much else, IM(not so)HO.

I have wasted hours of my life looking at 'pictures' and 'figures' in clouds, linoleum, plywood paneling, "picture" sandstone, toast, burnt bottoms of frying pans, and abstract "art"...but all that was really there were natural, random, abstract patterns that the brain could arrange into familiar seeming figures.
