Another version of the story here -

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/2651937/The-people-living-in-drains-below-Las-Vegas.html

The sad truth....

"We don't want them to get too comfortable because it is really an illusion. It can be extremely dangerous.

"It doesn't rain much in Nevada but when it does the tunnels can fill very quickly. There have been 20 drownings in the last 20 years and a lot of those were people who were living in the tunnels.

"Steve and Kathryn can say they feel like they have a home. But when it pours down three inches of rain in two hours it's clear it's not a home. It's a flood channel."

Yes, you’re right. There is a reason for those tunnels and it’s not to provide free living space for squatters. I grew up in the southwest, and I suspect those tunnels are like the arroyos in NM. When it rains those dry little *canyons* fill with fast moving water and you can drown easily.

That would be an awesome idea for a theme hotel.

Here in Reno, we have a Riverwalk area and the homeless hanging out there are always getting washed away when a little rain makes the Truckee River rise.

True that, they should be in an ever expanding Harry Reid homeless shelter.

Is it against the law to move them on? I suspect it is.

Rent-free living. And some homes above ground get flooded too, so why not? :)

Is that moleman cologne you are wearing? lol

I live here in Sin City and I can tell you Vegas is a magnet for all the worst forms of human beings around the nation. Its like a fly trap for dirtbags, panhandlers, hookers, grifters, junkies, con men, drug dealers etc..we’ve got it all here! ;)
