Congratulations Joe Paterno

Congratulations Coach Paterno on your 400th victory today!

To come back from a 21-0 deficit to register a 35-21 victory mirrors your ability to consistently thumb your nose at your critics.

You graduate 90% of your players, and over the years you've created more surgeons, engineers, business leaders, and just good people than you ever could have created NFL football players.

You have done it right since you came to PSU in 1950. The "Grand Experiment", where kids were students first has held for over 60 years.

Thank you Joe. You make PA a better place. You make college football a better place. You make sports a better place. And you make the world a better place.

I look forward to you serving out your current contract (through 2011), and maybe re-upping?

Hopefully, he overcomes the deficit of his son’s being an Obama supporter. PA learned a lot in 2 years.

Gotta tip your hat to JoePa!

ESPN just did a feature on prices when Paterno first started his head coaching tenure at PSU. Gas was 32 cents a gallon and home prices were less than $4,000. And I'm old enough to consider Joe Paterno the new coach there since I well recall Rip Engle.

JoPa is pretty vocal about his respect and admiration for Bobby Bowden. Class guys—both of them!

The Joe Pa era. He is college football’s John Wooden.

John Wooden was a great teacher of basketball, but he was also a cheater, and he cared nothing about his players’ futures. Google “Sam Gilbert” and “Wooden” together.

Don’t associate Joe with him because they had little in common.

And ...
Bigfoot is real;
Aliens built the pyramids;
Castro and the FBI killed Kennedy;
Oh ya and Joe Pa never ever violated one NCAA rule.

Have you ever coached, refereed, been administrator of a state athletic organization? Pushing the envelope is part of the game. Judging past performers by today’s standards is unwise. Joe Pa is a great coach with strengths and weaknesses. John Wooden was a great coach with strengths and weaknesses. Both competed as hard as they could pushing the envelope of competetive regulations. The standard of oversight was different for each era. Joe Pa will have reporters make a name for themselves by finding his “Sam Gilberts” one day, too. I still love them both.
