You don't know ANY conservative kids who don't put Palin at the top of their 2012 list?

Good Lord, Prof ... is everything in your world either "1" or "0"?

Yes ... I know conservative (both young and old) whose current first choice for POTUS 2012 is Sarah Palin. I also know conservatives (both young and old) whose current first choice for POTUS 2012 is someone else. Most that I know in the 'real' world really don't have much of a preference, and many who live in Virginia are more concerned with State elections this year.

Since you mention him, I'll note that I know nobody in the 'real' world who supports Huckabee.

Was the 2007 polling right in 2008? Lemme ask President Rudy...err Hillary about that...

Oh, yeah, and McCain was REALLY popular with independents in those polls too.

Can we please just have the damn primary without every smarty-pants trying to save us all from ourselves? If Palin’s a big bag of fail, she has no chance of winning the primary.

Saying that the polls are wrong is where you and I have both gone wrong in the past. But pretending that polls are static is even more foolish. Trying to pick a nominee by general election polls two years out from the election is insanity. It’s those kind of silly attempts at pragmatism that always get us sure losers like McCain in the general.

We should stop worrying about who CAN win and start worrying about who SHOULD win. It’ll make for a lot more productive arguments anyway. :)

You said that the conservative college kids that you know are jazzed about all the other conservative candidates who might run, but not Palin. I’m curious, just who are these other conservatives they are jazzed about?

Don’t put words in my mouth. I didn’t say they “objected to her presidency,” nor did I say they were “detractors.” I said there wasn’t any enthusiasm for her-—certainly not like you see here on FR, and it’s striking.

“But on thread after thread, I keep telling people that I work with college students every day, and NONE OF THE CONSERVATIVE’S KIDS LOVE HER.”

Sorry for the shouting, if I knew how to make that last phrase bold I would have done so. Point is by you saying “none of the conservative kids love her” I and others imply that you mean that they have a dislike for her. But tell me? Who are they psyched about?

I think it is disingenuous of you to say that there are a minimal number of young conservatives that don’t automatically gravitate towards her (WHY DON’T THEY AUTOMATICALLY GRAVITATE TO HER?) because many of my conservative college aged friends like Palin’s message. Many of them have read her books and seen her TV series and they can’t wait to see her whip Obama in the debates and the election. They want to campaign for her and there is enthusiasm for her among us. And I know that the vast majority of college students won’t gravitate towards her, so frickin what?

College students haven’t broken for some candidates in recent elections, like GWB, but he still won. So what, screw em we don’t need them.

Secondly, presidential campaigns are about winning people over, of course she’s going to have to “win people over.” For, example Ronald Reagan had to win over moderates and independents to vote for him because he was perceived as an “old, senile-movie actor, who would have his finger on the button and start a nuclear war with Russia.” Likewise, Sarah Palin will have to win over those same people because she is perceived by some, not all as “a dumb, ditz, with an annoying voice, who would lose to Obama because she can see Russia from her house.” My conservative friends and I won’t let the MSM, academia, or any others foist a conservative light candidate on us: Bush, Romney, Huckabee, etc. It’s our future too and many of us young conservatives don’t like what we see with Obama and we want a true transformative figure that will put the US back on track, I know many of my friends think it’s Palin, sorry yours don’t feel the same way.

Thanks for shouting at me it really made my day.

My views of who and who doesn't support Palin are based ENTIRELY on a) polling (which no one here likes if it doesn't comport to their world view

Broad brush with no foundation in fact.

But the mere fact that she drives them crazy is NOT sufficient cause for making her president

I haven't seen anyone making a case for Palin running for Prez with that criteria.

...right now she'd also lose to Obama in a general election

Some straw there, and no one can know that for sure.

Palinbot, Palinista etc etc are agitatoty words that really don't help reasoned debate.

Supply a couple of polls that suggest Palin can beat Obama, rather than criticizing. And, yes, Rush routinely implies that she is "who they fear most," i.e., that she would win because they fear her.

The polls referred to in several threads today about Palin's very poor showing with women and independents are absolutely "foundation" with "fact." Show me some different.

I think "they don't love her" is exactly the same thing as "they don't gravitate to her." I did answer your question. I said the most whom I know who identify themselves to me as Christians like Huckabee, for whatever reason. And you're welcome.

And I'm NOT (yelling? or emphasizing?) saying that "most college kids" don't like her. I've been consistent, talking about the College Republicans I speak to and those who identify themselves as conservatives. But another indicator: I work regularly at county GOP HQ. Virtually none of the volunteers there are strong Palin supporters while the majority of the 40+ year old women who work there are. Not scientific, just an observation.

Unfortunately one of the most common names I hear is Huckabee. I know, I know “he’s not conservative.” Well, they think he is.

I'm not trying to prove any point with polls other than that they will tell you something. I think when no polls ever show your candidate doing well with large blocks of key voters, you have a problem. You can dismiss one or two key blocks, but not all of them.

And since my message (as often seems to happen) gets buried under what people think I said, it is this: there are clearly, when one looks at poll after poll, issues with Palin. So in discussing who SHOULD win, maybe we ought to ask, "what is it that is generating that hostility among certain large swaths of the electorate?" If it is message, then we won't win with anyone and nominate whomever. I don't think it is. As I said, I think there is a personality issue here that transcends her perceived position on issues. That would be important to know, wouldn't you think?

Unfortunately, I know far too many. I don’t get it, I don’t like it, but I won’t pretend they don’t. I do know one of the appeals is that he supposedly is for the “Fair Tax,” and that has a huge appeal among the Tea Party people-—often over any other issue.

That’s to bad. I guess I’d always thought that conservative college students were smarter than liberal college students. It appears that is not the case if they think Huckabee is a conservative.

Now that's funny!

My posts have been countering your criticism, but you want to stop mine? Free speech for me, but not for thee?

: > )

Sorry I don't depend on Polls, Limbaugh etc.

I look at the whole picture, and in the process don't try to discourage others from their viewpoints.

But will counter them when they are wrong and/or strawman/broadbrush.

That's because when it comes to the real world, even the conservative kids are morons. They're years away from being leaders, for now, they need to be led.
