I'm tired of hearing some people, even from FR say that we need to "rise above the fray"!
Saturday January 22, 2011

Posted on 01/22/2011 10:24:53 AM PST by Bigtigermike

I'm sick and tire some on our side buying into the myth that if we just "rise above the fray" from attacks that are scurrilous and baseless that we will somehow win the arguments against us! That's pure bull!

We are playing right into the hands of the MSM and liberals when we act civil and honorable "according to their rules of acting civil and honorable" which is to shut up and sit down about conservatism and not fight back. The only kind of people that the left and MSM consider honorable are people like Bob Dole and John McCain both of whom lost by not fighting.

Speaking of McCain, notice how 'civil' he was in 2008 "[Senator Obama] is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared about as President of the United States,". There's a difference between rhetoric and record, but you can still be respectful," McCain said to one questioner. "I will point out his record and I will do it with respect."

Did Obama act respectful and civil? Linking President Bush and Senator John McCain as partners in “the failed policies” of the past seven years and criticizing them for “hypocrisy, fear peddling, fear mongering.”? "They're going to try to make you afraid of me. They're going to say you know what, "He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. Did I mention he's black?"

The MSM called McCain's rallies vitriolic and tinged with racism and hateful but said that Obama has run a clean, non-slanderous campaign and deserves respect. He is the one that wishes to address the issues and look how wonderful Obama is, he will help heal the nation.!!!

What happened in 2008 is almost happening in 2011 with the attacks on Sarah over the Tucson attacks; Barack Obama stood back for days and let his supporters in the media and left rip Palin apart, only then to proclaim that we don't really know what happened in Tuscon and let the media narrative was how wonderful Obama is!

But this time Sarah fought back after a few days and only had a few choice towards the media, and the left and media STILL ATTACKED HER OVER IT'!

If all the others here or pundits like Dick Morris or even FOX NEWS are gonna sit around and watch this happen and say "don't do nothing" or be tepid in a response at best then they need a brain analysis. If Conservatives cannot defend themselves over these baseless, libelous charges then they got no business running. period!

In the political sphere, and in the religious sphere, a lot of people who understand what is really important have, unfortunately, taken the view that "The world is an awful place. I don't like the way things are going ... so I'll just go over here and surround myself with a small group of people who agree with me that the world is messed up. That will make me feel better about things."

Conservatives and Christians need to be out there overturning tables and shouting at people that they're "doing it wrong".

The Dr. Phil Show’s sponsors should be boycotted.

A few days ago, Dr. Phil played what he said was an excerpt of the Tucson shooter’s YouTube video, but the only line cut from the video was where Jared uttered “these two illegal wars.”

Now, what side of the political aisle would use the term “two illegal wars?”

The shooter is a leftist, but yet 75% of the country is still believing he is tea party or GOP, just believe the media lies.

It’s called righteous indignation....the keyword being “righteous”. If you’re in the right, it’s ok to show your anger at the wrongs being done.

Of course, the leftists all think they are in the right and never, ever question the possibility that they might be 100% wrong.

And yes...the leftists wish we would all just ‘turn the other cheek’ as was mentioned last week. I think not.

No, I'm not doing any such thing. It is clear, however, that many who post on FR or engage in political conversations resort very quickly to vulgar and abusive language. I just want to remind people that little exchange of ideas occur that way, and nobody yields in an argument to verbal duress. Fostering hard feelings will not solve the woes faced by our Nation. So, I agree with the original poster just as long as he intends to "push back" with skillful use of language.

I don’t have a problem at all defending ourselves. In fact we should defend ourselves and not sit idly by and allow it to go on. I do however have a problem with using the same tactics they use. It’s unnecessary and all you end up doing is getting dirty with them. Like boxing, let your opponent get all riled up, then when they have gotten all spun up and flailing about, you let them have it. And keep it as simple as possible. If you do this long drawn out explanation, or you start shouting, name calling ect, you’ve lost, they aren’t listening and neither is anyone else.

Absolutely! Voicing this eloquently and without abusive language and angry intonations will be more effective. It is very important to give voice to dissent. It is equally important to do so in a civil manner.

I suggest all here go read the Founders' works concerning selef governance and the qualities that should be expect of those People who do self govern. We have definately lost the knack of polite discourse. We behave like ruffians rather than gentlemen.

Right on target. It is unwise to play nice in a card game where one of the players insists on obviously cheating.

Not every one recognizes our nation is dealing with two opposite political forces, only one of which is consistent with the Constitution.

As I have posted elsewhere:
Not every decent, God-fearing gentleman (Boehner) is capable of prevailing in a street fight, especially a fight waged by the likes of the present crowd. The Socialists and the Republicans are in a struggle for control of our nation, and it appears only the Socialists fully understand that.

I am making general reference to what people of today mistake for polital discourse: Foul and abusive language. The author did not qualify how to push back, except to scoff at taking the higher ground. I am assuming that taking the lower ground like our adversaries includes the abusive behaviour. That implication seem clear to me.

I take issue with abusive and insulting discourse.

I don't think of staying above fray as a matter of being civil and honorable.

The Left seems to have abandoned their frontal lobes for pure limbic responses. No rational thought, no empirical reasoning, no logic...just angry emotion.

The only arrow in their quiver is character assassination. And that is the fray we must remain above.

Let them scream their insults and obloguy...is that the level to which we want to sink.

We think...they stink (oops, I think I just sank to their level).

The question is, what is to be done? IMHO we should sue. Never mind that Sarah (et. al.) is a "public figure," sue on the basis of willful, unambiguous disregard for the truth. Sue on the basis that the Associated Press is a monopoly (SCOTUS already ruled that, back in 1945).

I agree we need to respond, and respond incisively, but response has to be done in a way that doesn’t play into the hands of the left. Even after the multiple broadsides launched from the left, aided by the MSM, trying to pin the Tuscon shooting on the right, for the majority of people it didn’t stick.

We need to speak softly and carry a big stick. That stick is truth and perseverance. If we are ‘surgical’ in our responses, and truthful and incisive, we will come out on top.

All this talk of "civility" is just a way of telling the right to shut up. Why do that, just when we're winning the argument?

Civility is one thing; timidity is another. Too many people on the right spend half their time apologizing for themselves and trying to disassociate themselves from other people on the right. You don't see the lefties wasting their energy like that.

When your country and everything patriots have handed down to you are being taken away, you have a right and a duty to shout. The other side has the media, government and the academy in their corner already. They can afford to talk softly (although they usually don't), because everything they say comes booming through the echo chamber of the establishment. We don't have that luxury.

They want us to shut up because we're starting to be heard. Why should we fall for that?

Responding to attacks is defensive.

We need to go on offense BEFORE they attack, make THEM respond...Like Glenn Beck does practically every day.

They have attack machines we only have responses.

Surprise attacks take them off their game and put THEM on the defensive.

Many forget that the HLSA before the shooter was even booked claimed that some “right-Wing” website was responsible for the shootings. That claim stood for at least 3 days. As the information that became known indicated the site had NOTHING to do with the beliefs of the shooter.

When the Government makes an assertion on absolutely NO evidence. And then QUIETLY, removes the assertion. What would you call that. CLEARLY A PROPAGANDA TACTIC TO GET THE RADICAL LEFTIES ALL WORKED UP. Hence the msm felt embolden to blame anyone and everyone the RABID Lefties find objectionable. (Palin, Rush,Beck etc etc)

To allow the type of accusations to go unchallenged is suicide. They MUST be refuted. To long have Conservs,Repubs, and even some Tea Party members sat back while being called vicious names. The Tea Party has fought back successfully. And due to Palin, Beck,Rush leading the charge, the Rabid Lefts campaign was shown for what it is and stopped. (for now)

Turning the other cheek, only gets a kick in the groin.

But self-governance needs to start with knocking people off of welfare and/or disability, if they’ve gotten better since being awarded disability.

If you’re under 45 and have been on disability (especially a non-physical disability such as bi-polar) for more than 7 years, you should be forced to have a face-to-face review done and your benefits potentially cut in half or cut totally.

I have talked to countless people who are under 45 and have been on disability for 7 years or more who now claim, due to modern medications, they would be able to work, but that it’s just easier to sit back and collect a check each month.

Also, how many times have we seen specials on 20/20 or Dateline where somebody is collecting disability and hopping in and out of sports cars, when they’re supposed to be crippled?

Entitlements are killing us but nobody in Washington has the balls to say it.

We are in a seemingly impossible situation since anything we say, civil or otherwise, is twisted and lied about by the media. However, we do have the truth with Fox News on our side, mostly. I read once that a very small percentage of Americans actually read anything about politics - they vote based on soundbites and their own pocket, or their own single issue (sexual persuasion, abortion, war).

Since the conservative voices are constantly being attacked and lied about, they have to play the game and find key words, issues, and people who can appeal to the 80% who are too dumb or lazy to even listen to the news.

The economy is issue number one. That is all that most people can related to. Sometimes I think we could attract more voters if we advertised like a beer commercial.

Truth, compassion, courage, integrity, and even love have absolutely no effect on those who love cruelty, self, destruction, and envy above all else.
