If you could move to one state, which would you chose?

Posted on 01/31/2011 7:05:33 AM PST by mikelets456

Ok, I am from NJ. Between the high taxes, strict gun laws and crazy liberals I am seriously thinking about moving... have been thinking this for quite some time. Right now I have three children and have to pay for private schooling for all three because the public school's agenda's here are disingenuous and horrible. I want to make sure I do not go from the frying pan into the fire. I have a few choices for job transfers to NC, TX and OH. I need to be in a good area as I have a Neurological disorder and need an area with good doctors. However, I want to look at a state that will not give into any FEDERAL PRESSURE regardless (Are there any states left?). Looking for good infrastructure, few unions, decent schools (or good private schools), friendly gun laws and good hospitals. I guess what I am looking for is a a state that will stick to Constitutional principals regardless of what happens.

Arizona. It has, shall we say, diversity (make of that what you will); it has Brewer, Arpaio, and exists perpetually in brocko’s crosshairs.

Suburban Houston?

Houston apparently has a really good hospital system and if you live way outside of downtown the crime level is pretty darn good. (stay away from downtown in the dark, lol)

Well, that state doesn’t exist, but Texas comes closer than most. I recommend that you keep your kids in private school (or home school) wherever you go. The Dewey-ites run the public show, and your kids are worth protecting.

I think Texas would be a good choice.

I think if push came to shove in the worst case scenario, Texas is probably your best bet. With the exception of the Pacific NW, I’ve been to all states in the CONUS. It’d be my choice, if pushed.

Nebraska has an unemployment rate of 4.4. We have decent gun laws (could be better, but we’re working it) and we have three medical schools in Omaha which means we have some decent docs. I home school so I don’t know too much about the public schools, but there are a couple of really good private schools/Christian schools. It is very flat. I’m not from here, but I’ve been here 16 years.

My daughter lives in San Antonio and would tell you to move there, especially since they have a pretty active seccessionist movement there. They are working on their gun laws as well. I’m not sure about the doctors. She also home schools because the schools in her area are awful. There are private schools in town.

I believe the larger metropolitan areas of Texas have their issues too. Parts of Houston and Dallas/Ft. Worth aren’t known for fine public schools. Sure, there are great areas of those cities too, don’t get me wrong. Just sayin...

No doubt that Texas has favorable gun laws. But I think NC does as well (the other State you mention).

If you are only focusing on those three, Texas probably is your best bet.

But their football team still sucks.

New York or Boston in the late 1700's.

California in the late 1940's.

Georgia is nice now, in 2011.

I'm thinking another country as soon as America unwinds.

Don't come to NC. We have terrible public schools, an increasing number of NE liberals moving here to escape high taxes in the north so they are bringing their liberalness with them. We do have good medical centers UNC, Duke etc. but an increasingly high tax burden.

One optimistic bit of news in NC is that our new Republican legislature just took office last week, the first R government in 113 years. Hopefully we can get rid of our dimbulb D Governor in 2 years. We are a right to work state but have the usual bloated Government employee union workforce.

Good luck in wherever you decide to move.

North Carolina, Ohio and Texas are all fairly big states. It would depend a lot on the area within each.

You mentioned a medical condition. How often is treatment required and how far are you willing to travel to first class treatment facilities?

As much as we like to rag on Cleveland (the mistake by the lake) here, we also have to concede that the Cleveland to Pittsburgh corridor has some of the best medical care in the country.

Don't make a mistake of writing off certain areas just because libtards control and screw up the central cities. Pittsburgh, for instance, is full of libtards and unions who have bankrupted the city. However, just one county over (ours or Washington county to the west), you will find some of the best rock-ribbed conservatives and school districts which you'll find anywhere.

I have been to just about every state in the USA in my business travels. Houston is a good area... the only thing that concerns me is being so close to the border? The docs are good, oil, manufacturing, jobs, no income tax, etc. My main concern... the border... any insight on this? Could it in 10 tears have so many illegals that it now is a liberal mecca?

If you could move to one state, which would you chose?
Euphoria, bliss or happiness would be my top 3 states.

But of the three you mentioned, I would pick TX.

I think only TX from your list is a no income tax state. The weather is generally pretty good there, though it's hot in the summer. They also are now taking a dim view of Federal regulation down there (a bit of a war developing with the EPA over some "environmental" regulations).

OH has been turning more conservative, but there's a strong union history there, and some of the liberal nonsense is still on the law books. Can also be cold and snowy, especially along the shores of Lake Erie.

I can't say anything (that would be knowledgeable) about NC. I've visited the western (mountains) of NC many time. It's beautiful country in the rural western parts.

If medical care is an issue (as well as no income tax), Florida deserves some mention. We have lots of Doctors (and many really good ones) down here in "God's waiting room." I'm not sure what your issue is (and I really don't want details, no offense intended), but it it's anything that gets worse with age, there will be Doctors here who have experience (lots of experience) dealing with it.

But the schools here in FL suck. 47th in the country by some measures, and not likely to improve without some real reforms and reorganization.

I’ve lived in the Clear Lake area near Houston and NASA for about 15 years. Great schools, low crime, great environment (access to the coast and lots of marinas if you are a boater) and near the world-renowned Houston hospitals.

There may be some good house buys coming on the market if NASA downsizes.

My favorite area of Texas however is either San Antonion or Ausin because they are nicely urban but with the scenic ‘hill country’ within their city limits. Gives you a better climate than muggy Houston. Lots of lakes nearby. San Antonio has a good medical center with a rising reputation.

Dallas is good and busy economic metropolitan area but just doesn’t have the charm of either of the above two choices.
