Ok, I am from NJ. Between the high taxes, strict gun laws and crazy liberals I am seriously thinking about moving... have been thinking this for quite some time. Right now I have three children and have to pay for private schooling for all three because the public school's agenda's here are disingenuous and horrible. I want to make sure I do not go from the frying pan into the fire. I have a few choices for job transfers to NC, TX and OH. I need to be in a good area as I have a Neurological disorder and need an area with good doctors. However, I want to look at a state that will not give into any FEDERAL PRESSURE regardless (Are there any states left?). Looking for good infrastructure, few unions, decent schools (or good private schools), friendly gun laws and good hospitals. I guess what I am looking for is a a state that will stick to Constitutional principals regardless of what happens.
THEN WE WELCOME OTHER STATES TO JOIN OUR COUNTRY (Except NY and CA)
It really depends on the individual. Someone who comes down and starts ragging on people for their drawl probably isn’t going to make a lot of friends.
Also, a lot of non-natives can’t grasp Texas pride.
With that said, let me add that my Dad came here from NYC a little under 50 years ago. My husband has been here for 22 years. Neither of them are Texans by birth but you’d never know it. And they wouldn’t leave for all the tea in China. :D
I’m here in Ohio too. Even though the winters are COLD, we live in one the most beautiful areas of the country. (east of Cleveland) Lake, rivers, rolling hills, parks, decent schools, etc. Oh, and we have the Cleveland Clinic. :)
Texas, hands down.
I'd live there myself except I can't stand the Dallas Cryboys and I don't want to get lynched for rooting for my favorite team...anybody playing the Cryboys.
One word of advice...live as far away from the inner city (of any of the choices) as you can...well, two words of advice...leave any, "we did it this way in Joisey" attitudes behind...when in Rome...

It’s not my state, I just live here. Concur about the gun laws, like I said we’re working on it. Agree also about OPD. However, several towns in the state have violated the US Constitution as well as the NE state constitution by banning guns in their town so OPD isn’t alone in their free interpretations.
We call it the Tax Me State. Unless, of course, you are a mega corporation, then the state gives you all kinds of tax breaks to open here.
All that said, the crime rate is low and there are jobs. Which is more than can be said about NJ, which is where the thread originator is from.
well, I would like to say a few things about Ohio. There are fabulous medical facilities from Cleveland to Cincinnati, and many fine small college towns in between. The cost of living is pretty low, and schools away from the cities, especially in smaller towns with universities are really great. Just stay away from the cities and you will be fine. The farther south you go, the milder the winters. I have lived in Ohio all of my working life and raised our kids in Ashland and it was a quality of life that is hidden in “fly-over country” Would not trade it for a minute...however, retired to warmer climate now!
Or how about we all get together and take over Tucson AZ?
I was workign there for 6 months last year and I am dying to go back.
I dream of a house in the foothills. The weather is incredible.
And we tell them mexican that if they love mexico so much they can have CA and see how they like it living in Mexico again.
Better yet we PAY THEM to take CA

Full of what, would be the question. Bordering Yellowstone, and full of move ins in places like Missoula, Bozeman, and Kalispell plus a legislature that saw fit to rid the country of the only reasonable speed limits, other than NV who also capitulated to PC, I wonder.
Montana is blessed with some of if not the most spectacular scenery anywhere on earth, but liberalism is lurking with wilderness and environmental activists running loose. It does have extreme winter weather in its favor, but apparently with the beauty of nature, that is not enough to keep out liberal riff raff.
To my mind WY offers the most bleak terrain, coupled with incessant wind that keeps it that way, heavy blue collar working folks, Pickup trucks outnumbering cars, no income tax, guns outnumbering people, liberals generally in Jackson, Lander, and Cheyenne driving Subaru’s so they are easily recognized. All things desirable for a place of refuge, for big city conservatives.
How to make a living? That is another important question. Drill in your back yard? I love painting with the power roller. Oh well fire proof panties on parade.

We just moved to Katy, TX (Houston suburb) last year. Fantastic area. My daughter is in one of the top 20 elementary schools in the State, no crime, low taxes, good people, big church within two miles.
I highly recommend the Houston suburbs — Cypress, Katy, The Woodlands, Clear Lake, Kingwood.

East Tennessee...no income tax either, nicer climate, reasonably conservative, four seasons, beautiful scenery, LOW property taxes...
Idaho is nice, but nasty winters up north, and Boise is being assimilated into California.
Austin is nice to visit ... buncha loonies, though. Austin is Texas’s Berkeley — where we ship all the crazy people so they don’t pollute the rest of the State.

I’m not from the Valley (I was born and raised in the coal fields along the Western border), but with the exception of the I-95 corridor, the entire state is pretty solidly conservative. Not Republican, but conservative.
TEXAS....Houston has one of the very top medical centers in the world...

Out of the 3 you listed, Texas would be the best bet. However stay away from southern Texas unless you are fluent in spanish. I have lived my adult life in North Florida. We don’t have any of the problems of South FL, no state income tax, cheap real estate, good gun laws, lots of undeveloped land. Low crime outside of the city and a good economy for people willing to work.In my area we have good old fashioned sheriff deputies that leave the adults alone. Perfect place to raise a family. We also have some really good hospitals, due to the University of FL medical school. Hope you find what your looking for. God Bless.
I moved from New Jersey to Texas (Houston) in 1988, had no problems fitting in. But then again it was clear that I was getting away from the Northeast mentality. I did get picked on for a slight German accent, since before I move I had been working for some German run outfits. But then some locals directed me to the Texas Hill Country, especially Fredericksburg, which even past the tourist facade retains a German character. My parents now live in Fredericksburg, and immediately became locals. Having a conservative outlook, and not being ashamed of it, helped as well.
My true home remains TEXAS!
