Seeking input: low cost outdoor security cam

Monitor must be e-z -- no tv or CRT or even flat screen. Money is definitely an issue (it's a charity). They need to see who's at the door when the bell rings. Home Depot advertises one with a portable monitor for 149 $. I'll probably recommend this unless someone can suggest something better.

I have 4 of these:

VideoSecu CCTV Security Camera 1/3” SONY CCD Outdoor Indoor Weatherproof Night Vision IR Infrared Free Power Supply BUH
http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Security-Weatherproof-Infrared-BUH/dp/B001DBROYK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1298315628&sr=8-1

Stay away from wireless, picture quality is crap.

If you want a nice and easy to use DVR I also own one of these gems.

New 4 Channel Embedded Linux US411L H.264 Network DVR With No Hard Drive, Real time True Triplex with built web server for remote viewing and operation, backup and operation 4CH DVR 120FPS SATA ready.

I appreciate the info. But this for nuns who a) have very limited funds and b) have way too much on their plate to deal with gadget overload.

I’ve tried wireless cameras (don’t know if that is what you are looking at) and in my opinion wireless cameras are worthless. I’ve got two that will eventually go in the garbage.

With a CCTV camera you could use a cheap small television as the monitor. You would use a regular coaxial cable between the camera and TV. The connections might be different from what you are used to and, if needed, you could get those at Radio Shack.

Go to monoprice.com.

They have some <$100 cameras of excellent quality.

First, you want one with as many lines as possible, >500
And, as many Infrared LED’s as are available.

These cameras don’t come with the cabling or power supplies, but, they cost far less than what I have purchased through other companies.

Wireless IP or CAT 6 into your network. Basically you can set it up anywhere you have an electricity source. I have one but it is bottom of the barrel. It works most of the time :-)very little picture quality.

Could pick up a Q-see system with DVR and 4 cams for around $300. If there is a network there can be plugged into the network and viewed through browser.
