The singer was fist-pumping on stage to the crowd.

Still doesn’t deal with the fact the kids were shirtless in the audience. Why do you think they felt a need to do that at a ‘christian’ concert?

And thus we are back to you needing to definitively define what makes music Holy instead of skirting around the issue.

Good night.

My point is, which you don’t seem to grasp, is if you simply add a religious component into something secular, it is still secular. It’s secular with religion mixed into it.

So, adding scripture to secular music makes it secular? Does adding scripture to secular paper make it secular also? Where can we get this Christian paper from? What trees produce Christian paper? What about the ink?/s

What does that have to do with 'missing the mark'? as a euphemism for sin?

And the issue in music isn't the lyrics, it is the music.

They saw Him cry in anguish

He was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb SO HE OPENED NOT HIS MOUTH'(Isa.53:7)

But don't let doctrinal purity get in the way of a good song.

This is great news, that Petra is back, after all this time! I’ve always liked Petra, they were, and are a tremendous group of guys! But, ya know, they are not the only Christian group that has gotten back together and touring again.

How many of you remember “The Jesus Movement” in the very early ‘70’s? Do you remember that there was a lot of “Jesus Music” as well?

One of the most remembered, and important groups of the Jesus Music era was “LoveSong”. Thier first album, “LoveSong” was released in 1972. That album is a classic now; it was truly the BEST Christian album to come out of that era. Imagine the harmonies of the BeachBoys; Beatles influenced melodies, with solid Christian lyrics - this is LoveSong.

These guys were the real thing. They just wanted to sing about The Lord. But they also played great Rock n’Roll as well. Phil Keaggy loved them, he often played with them on tour. (I saw them in Dallas in 1975, with Phil Keaggy..truly outstanding!)

Well, after almost 40 years, Chuck Girard and the rest of the original members of the group are back together, and currently on tour again.

If ya’ll want to hear what they sounded like, here’s a recording from their first album. Remember, this was recorded almost 40 years ago, and still stands up well! =

And here is their official Webpage=
http://thelovesongband.com/

I was 22 years old when I first heard LoveSong. This band and others in that era, including Petra, were very important to all of us who came out of the Jesus Movement.

While I may not agree with all of the theology of Petra, or LoveSong..both bands were influential, and important to a lot of us, when we were kids in those halycon days of the early Jesus Movement.

I, for one, shall never forget those days, or the bands that we listened to.

Really? Sexual and explicit lyrics to Ave Maria wouldn't make it secular?

You guys are too much!

Nice Scripture twisting. But that doesn't refer to the Crucifixion. It's talking about Jesus being judged. It says:

He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?

And this bears that out.

Luke 23:9
9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.

Mark 15:5
5 But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.

Matthew 27:12
12 When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.

But don't let doctrinal purity get in the way of a good rant.

If they made ONE person pick up a Bible to see where those lyrics and that message came from then they did what they were meant to do.

So I went to the website that tells you how to think. Interesting. For being "Christian" it's quite full of hate. It certainly explained why Secret Agent Man couldn't answer anything. There was no "canned" response on that website to certain questions, just marching orders. Ever hear the term "cookie cutter Christians"? You dutifully spewed "It's NOT the lyrics! It's the MUSIC!" I'm sure you'll get your gold star.

Don't bother posting to me again because I won't respond.

Since you won’t respond, I’ll post to you again.

If you think you can use any form of music as long as the band calls itself a christian band, you’re messed up. You even seem to have issues with the non-classical Petra band makeup bothering you, but they still called themselves christian during this time too.

You have a good one.
