GARFIELD ON THE OIL CRISIS
A lot of folks can’t understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country.
~~~
Well, there’s a very simple answer.
~~~
Nobody bothered to check the oil.
~~~
We just didn’t know we were getting low.
~~~
The reason for that is purely geographical.

And

Any Questions? NO? Didn’t think So.
That goes for the world. We owe these countries nothing.
There are a couple of ways to look at your request.
Current projections are $1.6 TRILLION in deficit for this fiscal year; in February alone, the deficit was $238 BILLION.
Total budget for 2011 is $3.73 TRILLION (I think - hard to tell since Obama and the Democrats refused to propose or pass a budget before the elections)
1. By the first measure, 60/1600 = 3.75% which is 13.7 days of borrowing (not of total gov’t spending)
2. By the second measure, 60/240 = 25% of February, or 7 days’ deficit spending.
3. By the third measure, 60/3730 = 1.6% = 5.9 days of government spending.
So, shut down the government for 1 week and you have largely saved the $60 billion the Republicans are proposing.
Just saying...;)
