When John Milius made RED DAWN back in 1984, he showed us an America occupied by dastardly Soviet forces.
Dan Bradley's current remake of the film, however, has shifted the picture's focus to a Chinese invasion (a vaguely reasonable move given that the Soviets are no longer the "villains" du jour).
Well, whether or not China ever could, or would, think to overrun the United States has now been rendered irrelevant - because the invading forces in the Dan Bradley-directed rehash are being transformed into Koreans via digital trickery and other slight-of-hand tweaks.
...potential distributors are nervous about becoming associated with the finished film, concerned that doing so would harm their ability to do business with the rising Asian superpower, one of the fastest-growing and potentially most lucrative markets for American movies, not to mention other U.S. products.
As a result, the filmmakers now are digitally erasing Chinese flags and military symbols from "Red Dawn," substituting dialogue and altering the film to depict much of the invading force as being from North Korea, an isolated country where American media companies have no dollars at stake.

I have noticed in all the old remakes of movies, instead of communists, the bad guys now are corporations.
I saw the original Manchurian candidate just a few months ago. It was excellent (though upsetting), and I knew they had remade it recently. And the bad guys are....an evil corporation!

Honestly you could do a remake of “The Mouse That Roared” and it would probably ring more true than ever. I would have NO PROBLEM suspending belief on that one!

By the way, the original Red Dawn had the Russians invade the U.S. - not the Chinese.
I thought so too until I saw the introduction of the new video game Homefront (written with Milius) and it takes place over like 15 years. US has dollar problems and brings overseas troops home. N. Korea forcibly reunites w/ S. Korea. US & Japan do nothing. N. Korea takes Japan and pretty much recreates the Greater S. E. Asia Co-prosperity sphere. It's like theh buildup to WW2 and almost believable. The gameplay is actually pretty boring though.

The for-real Red Dawn invasion already occured—on election day 2008. The commies now rule. Is Hollywood the last to be told?
The Chinese don’t need to invade America...all they have to do is call in the “marker” for the money we owe them.....
I’m told that there is a game coming out called “Home Front” (I think that’s the name). It’s supposed to be set in the future, the American economy is in tatters (maybe Obama got re-elected?) and a unified Korea invades the US. Maybe there’s going to be some kind of marketing tie-in.

Didn’t Charlie Sheen’s Wolverine character get killed in that movie? I knew there was something about that flick that I liked.
I thought so too, but... There’s a PC Game called Homefront that centers around a NK invasion of the US. It’s tempting to say that it’s too far out, but as I thought about, I was reminded of Germany after WW1. They were defeated, hungry, broken, paying out huge reparations, infrastructure falling apart, economy reduced to third world level. No one would have guessed then that in a mere 20 years, they would become the preeminent military and technological power on the continent. Who would have thought 20 years ago that China would become what it is today, or that the US would elect an open Socialist without a shred of real world experience, and questionable citizenship? Things change, which is why we must always be vigilant.
F=(ail) the new RED DAWN; this plot is so laughable now (as well as a rip-off of Homefront), and it hurts artistic integrity (as well as shows a lack of “guts” on the part of MGM leadership: and the producers).
I will not go see this; and it has dramatically reduced on my anticipation meter.
