Word For The Day, Friday, 3/18/11

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

perspicacity; noun

keenness of mental perception and understanding; discernment; penetration. 2. Archaic . keen vision.

Etymology: 1540–50; earlier perspicacite < Late Latin perspicācitās sharpness of sight, equivalent to perspicāci- (stem of perspicāx sharp-sighted; see perspicuous) + -tās -ty2 Synonyms 1. shrewdness, acuity, astuteness, insight, acumen. See perspicuity.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I love this word. The house is still snoozing on the first day of spring break and I am getting tired of waiting for them to arise. I’m ready to hit the park!

Here's an interesting take on film reviews, with perspicacity and more than a little sarcasm.

Obama claimed Hope through Audacity
Proclaimed himself Mr. Veracity
If the Truth Sets You Free
(And you can take it from me)
He is lacking in true perspicacity

the liberal media have ignored JFK's tax-cutting and anti-Communist tendencies and focused instead on his more noble attributes; chief among them, his family's deep religious convictions.

need I remind them that at the time JFK was banging his list of hotties with his bad back and all he was SINNING! gag me.....he had NO deeply held religious beliefs that he wouldn't compromise for a quickie.

Perspicacity must never be confused with mere eloquence; smooth talk can mask a lack of depth, as evidenced by the current president.

No, I saw that it was sarcasm on the article’s part.....just assumed the producers portrayed him as religious, as he suggested...which had me spouting off in an nanosecond. Probably best if I don’t watch it.

Unretired & anxiously awaiting 4:30pm.

Grandchild #1 (Hadley) was 3 on March 4, her cousin (Carter) will be 2 on March 30. Hadley’s sister Audrey will be 2 on October 26. And Carter’s little bro/sis (we find out hopefully next Wed) is due on Aug 29. Bunch of tricycle motors.

Did you hear that they told Obama that there were Brazilian protesters waiting for him in Rio? He replied...” I know what a trillion is, I’ve spent that much, but how many is a brazilian?
