You’re missing the point. Of course Tiger and everyone on the Tour for that matter make the rest of us look foolish on the golf course. But he did blow a number of short makeable putts at crunch time, that as others have mentioned the “old Tiger” wouldn’t have. And the author insults the at least 4 players including the winner who upped their game on the back 9 while Tiger faltered.

Yup and contrast McIlroy's behavior and Tiger's today. McIlroy a 21 year old young man who has never won a major could have been forgiven if he swore or spit or whined or snapped at camermen and fans on the course after a bad shot. Or been forgiven if he didn't want to be interviewed or was surly in the interview post-match. But he did none of those things at least in public view.

Tiger meanwhile, now in his 30s having won 14 majors and has had the world at his feet, stomps and spits and swears loudly and whines and overall acts like a spoiled little brat douchebag.

I know. Tiger will always be one of the best golfers ever. He can do it all; but he is getting older, had some injuries and, of course, was fool in private life which I am sure has a had some mental affects on him.

No. I understand your point. It is wrong.

Tiger Woods has NEVER won a major in which he was behind on Sunday. Look it up. So, how is this important to a comparison to the “OLD TIGER?”

And, once again, I have NEVER heard of anyone being criticized for missing an EAGLE putt of any length. In your effort to be right, you have not been paying attention to my point, my posts, or simple logical conclusions based on the man and his carreer.

Couldn't agree more. Clearly his game isn't back, but he's the same jerk he's always been.

The writer is a hack who knows little about the game. McIlroy’s play had nothing to do with Woods. 21 and all that pressure, and a history of bad rounds under pressure. That's what happened to McIlroy today. Woods was far ahead of him and McIlroy was leading at -11 when he collapsed on 10. After the triple bogey, his ability to focus was done. As he said later he started doubting his lines and his speed. That's a recipe for disaster at Augusta.

This idiots only care about creating some hype, playing up the Tiger story, because that's all the golf world has focused on for year. If he'd shot a 75, they would still be talking about him today - “how he's lost it” “what will happen to the game if he never wins again” blah, blah, blah.

He's been one of the dominant players in history, but a very bad representative for the game. Unlike Mikelson and other dominant players of this era, Woods has remained inaccessible to fans, given smug interviews when he's played poorly and generally has been a sore loser.

I can only imagine what the truly great legends of the game who are still with us - Palmer, Nicklaus, Player must think of this jerk. Or sure they smile and talk about how great a player he is, but he's really given the sport a black eye. Golf has always been about discipline, honor, grace under adversity. Tiger Woods had exhibited very little of that over the years.

You're going way overboard about semantics dude. First off pro golfers get criticized for missing short makeable putts in the clutch all the time, regardless of how many shots it took them to get that close. Ask Phil Mickelson he heard it for years. In fact they are their own harshest critics in those situations. You think Tiger is home tonight saying "well its ok I missed that short putt on 15 it was for eagle not birdie or par"?

But hey if you have never heard a missed eagle putt by a pro criticized, bully for you! Point is this article writer fawned over Tiger and in doing so insulted the guys who clearly played and putted better down the stretch. That's all

Yup maybe the most ridiculous point is the article is Tiger’s front 9 charge caused McIlroy to falter, and then he implies he was making everyone sweat. If Tiger was such an intimidator yesterday, why did about 6 golfers, most of them younger, up their game the same time as Tiger and then continue to do so until the end while Tiger flattened out on the back 9? He made a good run and made it interesting but it is not the most interesting or biggest story.

“You think Tiger is home tonight saying “well its ok I missed that short putt on 15 it was for eagle not birdie or par”?

Nope. I don’t think so. I think he’s working on his swing and paying no attention to anything else - certainly not the missed putt. He went through this last time he rebuilt his swing and couldn’t win for a year and all the experts were wondering if he was through - but you remember that, I’m sure. And when his swing comes around and he’s making shots like he did on eight and fifteen, his putting will come around. And, since you once again ignore the fact that he has never come back on a Sunday in a major and that this was nothing new, it’s more than semantics, it is you’re wrong and can’t admit it. Have a nice Sunday night!

LOL whatever man! BTW it's Monday morning where I am, not Sunday night you're wrong wrong wrong. I've never heard someone call Sunday Monday before. See what I did there?

For the record I was never one to say, like so many in the media, that Tiger is done and will never win again. If he can come in 4th in a major he can certainly win tourneys again. Actually was rooting for him at first just to shut them up, but honestly the crybaby way he acts out there whenever something goes wrong turns me against him every time.

“See what I did there?”

Yeah. I was deeply impressed.

If someone doesn’t do something stupid and take him out, he’ll do just what both Jack and Arnold have predicted. He’ll break every record and win more than both of them put together and be the greatest golfer the game has ever seen, because he has no holes in his game.

And just like Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb and Ted Williams and Jim Brown and Jack Johnson and Max Baer and all the other reprobates and sex fiends and awful people who have played sports at a level others never have, he’ll laugh at you and all the others that that make stupid assumptions about them.

And they will pass into history having been someone you will never understand because they play at a level about which you can only guess.

And you play at their level so can speak of them truthfully? Geez man you’re taking this way too seriously. Starting to freak me out a little so have the last word I’m checking out! But one thing, please don’t put Ted Williams in your reprobate category w Tiger he’s an American hero.

It’s kind of like a “missing the bulls eye by a foot from eight hundred yards” complaint.

I see your point...I guess the difference is that I would expect an amateur to miss the bulls eye by a foot or more from 800 yards but not a USMC sniper...

For the sniper it's a choke, for the amateur it's a pretty good shot...

Exactly. How does finishing in the exact same spot as a year ago equate to being "back"? Fact is Tiger loves Augusta and has always played well there. Him finishing top 5 is no surprise. But why isn't CBS talking about Wood's 6 year drought - last time he won the Masters was 2005.

I said on another thread McIlroy has more class in his pinky finger than Woods has in his entire body. I'm sure McIlroy would have been forgiven if he didn't give an interview with CBS after his round, but he did and gave very thoughtful, mature answers. Woods on the other hand was a jerk to Bill Macatee, with two very short, testy answers. And at the time he was tied (or one off) the lead.

Where did Phil Mickelson finish? Bubba Watson? Dustin Johnson? I’m not saying “Tiger is back”. Nor am I saying Tiger had a great round (nor a bad one by any means). Nor did he have a great 4 days. But the way he played day 2 and yesterday has to give him a boost of confidence that he’s on the right track.

But what bothered me most of this tournament was the lack of American contenders. Sorry, but I pull for the good ol’ USA when in competition with foreign players. There’s a pretty good article about that in the most recent Golf Magazine. Worth reading.

I’m a lefty myself. Not the best player by a long shot. Overweight, health issues, don’t drive the ball long, and at my age need senior shafts. (Just finished building two sets of 5i>PW with senior shafts, and am reshafting some other clubs as well). I’ve played for over 50 years and am little better than I was 10 years ago. But I play for fun, not competition, and it’s a pleasure to me. So, I’ll do my own thing, yet enjoy seeing someone who can really play stay in contention, even with his foibles and problems.

I give credit where it’s due. He showed up for an entire year knowing he didn’t have a chance. Faced the crowds, the media, and of course the haters.

With all due respect, why should we give credit to someone for showing up and doing their job? Average Joe's all over the world have to show up for work after going through tragedy - family member dying, illness or injury, etc. Why should we give Tiger Woods special credit?

Funny, having lived in the Central Florida area for a long time (During Tiger's prime, will probably be a rebirth of his game soon, happens in golf) it has been the foreign born players who have reached out to the community more than Woods.

Woods just plants his narcissistic a$$ in Florida for tax purposes. Many foreign born players that reside in Central Florida, who also take advantage of the no State income tax like Woods, actually take the time to reach out to the community, succumb to their humility, and realizing they have been blessed with a gift to hit a little white ball for a living while getting paid well for playing a game.

Time is more valuable than money in the celebrity profession. All these top professionals have gobs of great wealth, but the foreign born players have provided their time as well as money to the native local community and Woods... well he was to preoccupied about banging his neighbors daughter and breathing a sign of relief due to the fact he does not reside in the high tax State of California, where he probably rather be based at.
