DURHAM, NC (WTVD) -- Sources tell ABC11 Eyewitness News the boyfriend allegedly stabbed by former Duke Lacrosse accuser Crystal Mangum has been taken off of life support.

Reginald Daye, 46, was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment on April 3.

Police say 32-year-old Mangum stabbed Daye in the chest during an argument at the apartment the couple shared in the 3000 block of Century Oaks Drive. Search warrants issued last week say Daye told responding officers Mangum stabbed him and took his money.

Man Mangum is accused of stabbing dies

By John McCann

DURHAM – The man Crystal Mangum is accused of stabbing has died, Durham Police Department Chief Jose Lopez Sr. said Wednesday.

Mangum already was in jail under a $300,000 secured bond charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

“More than likely, we will be upgrading the charge to murder,” Lopez said.

In 2006, Mangum, 32, falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of raping her.

On April 3, officers were called to 3507 Century Oaks Drive. When they arrived, they found a 46-year-old man had been stabbed in the torso with a kitchen knife, according to police. He was taken to Duke University Hospital and treated for serious injuries.

In December, Mangum was in Durham County Superior Court for an arson trial. Jurors found her guilty of three counts of contributing to the abuse and neglect of minors, causing more than $200 in property damage to the car of the man who was Mangum’s boyfriend and resisting a police officer. Those were misdemeanor charges. But jurors did not reach consensus on the major issue, the arson charge — a felony — so Superior Court Judge Abraham Jones declared a mistrial. Mangum was sentenced to time already served, 88 days. The Durham County District Attorney’s Office decided not to pursue the case further.

Mangum threatened to stab the boyfriend in the arson case, police said.

From the link:

Mangum went into hiding, then graduated from NCCU in 2008 with a degree in police psychology. Later that year, she released a memoir”The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story”

Then last year, Mangum was arrested and charged with attempted murder, arson and child abuse after a domestic dispute with a man she dated before Daye

In December, the jury found Mangum guilty of child abuse, but they couldn’t agree on a first-degree felony arson charge, which could have landed Mangum in jail for seven years

Good grief. This woman can’t stay out of trouble. I hope now that she will go away to jail for a llllooooonnnngggg time. They will not give her the death penalty. Nope, nada, no way. They will say she was troubled. The court should have put her in prison earlier for lying about the Duke Lacrosse players so she couldn’t have stabbed this guy. Now, this guy, her boyfriend now is dead.

Duke lacrosse accuser’s boyfriend dies after stabbing
Posted: 20 minutes ago

Durham, N.C. — Family members of a man who was stabbed in his home April 3 say he died Wednesday evening. Crystal Mangum, the Durham woman who falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape in 2006 has been charged with assaulting him.

Durham police could not be reached for comment on whether her charges would be upgraded.

Mangum, 32, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and was being held in the Durham County jail on a $300,000 bond.

Police said Mangum stabbed Reginald Daye, 46, in the torso with a kitchen knife during a dispute at 3507 Century Oaks Drive early on April 3.

Daye was taken to Duke University Hospital, and Mangum was arrested in a nearby apartment.

A man who said he was Daye’s nephew called 911 to report the stabbing, saying it occurred while Daye and his girlfriend were arguing about rent money. The caller said police came to the apartment complex earlier while the couple argued, but the stabbing occurred after the officers left.

When asked for a description of the girlfriend, the caller said, “It’s Crystal Mangum. THE Crystal Mangum.”

This jives with what my momma always used to tell me. She'd say, "Son, you just shouldn't date any girl who tried to murder her last boyfriend."

So ... where do you think all those Duke University liberal professor types that signed the petition supporting this skank and condemning the (falsely accused) Duke lacrosse players are today?
Bingo ... Duke University.

Will the Group of 88 go with Mr. Daye’s family to Crystal’s jailhouse and bang some pots and pans to demand justice? Will Wahneema Lubiano write an outraged statement for Mr. Daye to demand justice?

Will pigs fly?

LOL. But seriously, it is kind of difficult to have much sympathy for the guy she stabbed.

Did she say anything about dating girls who make false rape accusations? Seems it would be at least as dangerous.

He then added, "I told him she was trouble from the beginning."

Thanks for the ping. Can’t say I’m surprised. She was a piece of trash five years ago and she’s a piece of trash now. I will never forget what she (and the media and all the liberal garbage) put those boys through five years ago.

I was listening to 680 AM and I swear I heard Roy Cooper saying that he hopes she gets treatment. I was only half listening before I knew the subject. Is he that pathetic?

You mean you heard that today?

Roy Cooper was hoping she would get treatment four years ago; he called her disturbed and refused to press charges against her.

Something else pathetic? The News Observer has disabled its comment board “numerous violations” of its policy. No one gave a d@mn about violations five years ago when the “rape” story first broke.

And who can forget that softball interview the News Observer published of Crystal, the soft spoken college student who was just trying to support her kids? Oh, gag me! I still get angry over this story.

Late to get back to you. Thanks for the ping. Hard to know what to say. She should have gone to jail at the time the Duke Three were acquitted, but everyone wanted to make nice and let it go because it was so racially charged. Now someone is dead. I'm sorry for everybody in this except Ms. Mangum.

Hey, did anyone read her book? Was she still claiming to be raped? If I could be sure she wouldn't see a penny of it, I'd like to read that.
