I'm kind of wondering what you're going to do when the drone puts a couple of missles "down your smokestack" at 2AM....just curious.

Die.

I’d say rural/small town Missouri or Arkansas, OUTSIDE of the major urban areas (except *maybe* Springfield, MO) is about as good as you could ask. Arkansas may be better for weather in winter, but otherwise, both states should be pretty similar in what really counts : Good farm land, lots of lakes and rivers, trees and hills, tons of wild game, excellent gun laws and the resulting attitude in the population re : firearm ownership, hunting, use of a gun in self defense....Stay away from KC or St Louis, and Mo’s looking pretty good. :-) There was an article posted here 2-3 years ago on economic freedom in the USA, and MO was in the top 10. And we went for McCain/Palin, FWIW.

RE:
“Texas, plenty of oil, food and guns. And the guts to use them.”

But you neglected to mention the OTHER thing that TX has “plenty of”:
Illegals, Hispanics, and their exploding demographics.

In 15-20 years (when all those anchor babies get to votin’ age), they are going to change the climate and culture of Texas and ruin it the same way as they have done in California.

Perhaps the northern part of TX isn’t so infested. If that’s the case, could the state eventually divide into Hispanic/Atzlan and Euro/gringo parts?

Just sayin’...

Upper East Tennessee is a terrible place. You can’t even buy wine in a grocery store or whiskey in a 7-11.

They eat an appalling amount of pig pork meat here in all permutations.

People will try to give you eggs from hens that eat actual bugs and worms.

There’s more - and worse.

Save yourself a lot of heartache - avoid upper east Tennessee. (Try West Virginia)

I totally agree. Take a line between Des Moines and Little Rock - anywhere near that line and at least an hour from either city and you got a pretty good setup.

I’ve been researching for a while now, and upper East TN looks really, really good.

And possums --- nasty creatures with long, narrow jaws and rows of pointy teeth --- eeew, possums all over the place. You Yankees and flatlanders wouldn't like it here. Not atall.

(Don-o: tell Mominem I'm tryin' to keep them other Yankees out.)
