Californians work 2 hours and 19 minutes of an eight-hour work day to earn enough money to pay their taxes. That's 27.7% of the work day, according to the Tax Foundation.

I think it is way more than 27%
>> They come up with some creative ways to illustrate the tax burden in ways even liberals can understand. <<
To understand something, one needs a brain.
Does the term “Slave” enter the progressive mind at some point? Or is that only a racial thing?
27% of the day sounds low to me too. They must count all those folks who pay no taxes into the average. I bet some Californians work 60% of the day to pay their taxes.
It's really a phoney stat because it depends on kids, owning a house, pay, benefits, pensions

That is why I am leaving. In L.A. sales tax alone is nearly 10%. Add to that property tax, auto tax, GASOLINE tax (which doesn’t go to the roads), utilities taxes, etc. etc. etc. and it is a wonder I have 2 quarters to rub together at the end of the month.
My new team just swept my old team in basketball — it is a sign from above!

Not really. You are thinking Income tax which, although pretty high, is the least of the tax bill.
28.96%

Whatever it is, it does not even include the $188 billion per hour, every hour, every day that the feds have us into. I figure that works out to about $2 per hour per taxpayer, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, being added to the federal debt.
E.g., My utility bill is 30% taxes and TAX fees. I pay it with monies already taxed.
>>That’s what I’m saying. There’s a tax on everything...not just normal local, state and Federal.

The taxes on utilities is really the sneakiest of them all. And as you point out that is paid for with after tax money.
California has gone beyond the tipping point. There are more people in the wagon than pulling it.
I can’t wait to get out of here. It will be in about 6 months.

and that is state taxes only no t federal.
Actually, the website says it figures all taxes — I thought what you said at first that it was just California taxes — but that’s not the case.
Not really. The data include state and local taxes. The states with the shortest time don’t have income tax, for example and the states with the longest time have lots of local/state taxes
I was not saying the math was incorrect, I was saying the percentage seemed way low
When you add up everything most people may be paying over 50% of their income in one form of tax or another
And dont forget- you are ALL paying 15% social security tax right off the top.
If you even try to say “NoooooooOOOOOOOooooo...your EMPLOYER pays 7.5% and you pay 7.5%” I will take away your conservative card and whack you with it.
YOU pay all of it, whether your employer gives you ‘his’ 7.5 percent first, or send it straight to the govt.
If you work for him and he paus you 100 dollars, you send 7.50 to the government and HE sends 7.50 to the government, for a total of $15 to the government.
That means it COSTS HIM $107.50 to pay you $100.
I would make no difference to the employer if he gave you the entire $107.50 and then YOU send $15 to the government.
YOU are paying 15 percent- the government just ‘fools’ you into thinking they are stickign it to your employer. (and many people are easily fooled)
So when you start with that premise, and add 10% sales tax- you are up to 25% already. And that is before Federal and State income taxes.
well, actually the math was incorrect or there was a typo. It was off by 1%.
I agree on the other items in your posts.
