Some viewers may find the video below, of a student being punched in the face repeatedly by another student, disturbing.
What many may find even more disturbing is the fact that the teacher stood by, with his hands in his pockets, as the student was beaten. However, what is truly appalling is the fact that the American Federation of Teachers is protecting the teachers actions inaction.
According to the Teachers Union, the students teacher was justified in standing there with his hands in his pockets while a kid got beaten because, in the unions words:
Teachers have intervened in the past, acknowledged Rena Honea of Alliance/AFT. They have been injured. They have not been able to return to work. They have been reprimanded for intervening. So there is a huge question mark as to whats truly appropriate.

I suppose we could take a vote on this. On the other hand (three hands already eh!) maybe you could give us a solution.
Ok, so you a really fat black teacher watching two white young fit boys beating each other, maybe he got off on it. (Yea, gross I know.) I hate teachers unions.
Unless he would be allowed to beat the crap out of the perp without being punished I support the teacher.
I think this is the key. If the teachers aren't given the authority and the backing to maintain discipline, then events like this will happen.
In a better world, a teacher would be reprimanded for not intervening -- or, more to the point, for a failure to maintain order -- but our over-litigious society has pretty much made that impossible.
‘Fraid so. Until the administration, the PARENTS and the police support teacher intervention, I don’t blame the teacher.
I don’t like that situation, but it sadly makes sense in the existing ‘policy’ environment.
If I had done that in HS, Mr. Lacalamita woulda beaten the crap outta me. And then my parents would get me ...
As the husband of a Teacher, I have to agree. She’s been threatened with lawsuits for patting a kid on the shoulder for a good job. I can’t imagine how fast she’d get sued for “assaulting our perfect Angel, Johnny” for breaking up a fight.
Until we get the ambulance chasers under control in this country, we are going to have to accept the damage they do to every other area in society.
When my boys did stupid things they could expect no sympathy from me. Now if they were being treated improperly I would be all over the school like white on rice.
I want teachers more beholding to the children than to their stupid pitiful and evil union...
I want them to consider their work a VOCATION .....doing good for the betterment of society, not so they can retire early and wealthy....
IOWS...I want the teachers we knew from 40 yrs ago....
if they return to be those kinds of teachers...the ones respected by both students and their parents....then, I say...SMACK AWAY AT DISRUPTIVE KIDS...
The Supreme Court has ruled that police don’t have an obligation or duty to protect anyone.
Why a teacher would have an obligation to protect anyone is beyond me.
Simple solution - online schooling - fire all teachers.
This clown can go apply for a job at McDs.
Remember the criticism of home schooling?
It did not socialize kids as public schools would.
Looks like public schooling gets your kids pummelized.
It just gets better and better, doesn't it?
The problem in this case is the fact that the teachers have had all authority to punish/intervene/reprimand/etc taken away from them. No longer are they allowed to dole out consequences. The kids know this.
Had this situation happened at my high school when I went there, that teacher probably would’ve grabbed the culprit by the ear and tugged him all the way to the office for a spat or more on the backside. Possibly even suspension.
Given the fact that this case happened in Texas, odds are this teacher isn't working to retire early and wealthy. That doesn't happen here. My in-laws are retired teachers. They're not rich nor did they retire early.
If the bully had the kid down on the floor kicking him in the face should the teacher have intervened? Is it just a matter of the degree of the beating?
But meanwhile,(in Massachusetts,at least),teachers CAN do THIS.....

“It did not socialize kids as public schools would.”
Turns out, they were using “socialize” there to mean “turn into a socialist”.
