I love this part from the article: This would not be the first time that a sample of the mantle would be recovered however, as volcanoes and such have been forcing under-crust material to the surface for eons; it would be the first time that a sample was found though that hasn’t been tainted by the process that brought it up to us, and that scientists say, is worth whatever the cost might add up to over time as the project carries on through years of laborious drilling.

Whatever the cost. Scientists say, so there ya go!

“What could possibly go wrong????”

All the magma will spew out, in a stream extending into the stratosphere. It will be stupendously spectacular. Or perhaps spectacularly stupendous.
And how do I know this, you ask? That’s my cosmic secret.
Nostradamus.

They had better be careful, they could be screwing with a sports icon here.

Awesome! What could possibly go wrong.

When Tom chooses the South Pole as the spot to hunt for molten iron with his earth blaster, his closest friends raise their eyebrows. Even Chow Winkler, the expedition's genial Texan cook, says, "Brand my thermopile, if the young inventor ain't plumb loco!"

There was a Dana Andrews Brit made sci fi flick that dealt with this very topic, though they used a rocket with a nuke down an African volcano instead of drilling. The results were not good to say the least.
