Any Lawn and Garden Folks Out There? (vanity/help)

Posted on 05/22/2011 6:34:34 PM PDT by freejohn

Am I the first 'dummy' to ever post something SO off topic and foreign to FReerepublic?
There just aren't ANY forums (Regardless of topic) where folks respond as quickly as here!
I have this stuff that just 'exploded' and is taking over my lawn and have No idea what it is called or What will do away with it!?
Some answers that I have received from elsewhere are: shotweed, bittercress and clover.
Sure hope there's a weed expert around?
Thanks Everyone.

Even if this sounds like a no-brainer, manually removing the weeds, roots, seed pods and all, works best at preventing reinfestation. You can eliminate whole species over a couple years, and it's free.

Just don't stand up real fast after crouching drown for so long. I almost ended up in the koi pond today.

Just type in the keyword - weekly - in the search box and search. This weeks Gardening thread should be at the top and all the past threads will follow it.

Thanks Red_Devil 232

I see where Scott’s recommends: Ortho® Weed B Gon MAX® Weed Killer For Lawns Ready-Spray

It kills chickweed and 250 others without hurting the lawn.

It DOES look like Oxalis too!?

Maybe I should just set my lawn on fire?

That is what I would try. Just be patient with expecting immediate results. Round up will do the job but kill everything else. Most people think when they use Round Up the offending plant will die the next day. It can take a couple of weeks for it to do its job completely. It will work.

Use kerosene if you decide to do the burn and give me a call before you ignite it! I want to come over and watch. I will hold your beer. LOL

Use the Ortho Weed B Gon.

It is a good broad leaf killer.
$9.00 at Home Depot.
It works great.
I just sprayed my lawn last week and the chickweed and
dandelions were wilted the next day and gone in a week.

Unfortunately the main root system is in my neighbor’s yard. I uproot any that gets established on my side. Maybe a yard-invasion root raid is in order.

I just over-seeded last week.
Will the Ortho hurt the seed?

Don't spray the whole lawn.
Use the premix with a spray nozzle.
Spray it on the leaves of the weeds.
Aim at center of the weed.
Spraying while warm (<90F) and sunny
always worked best for me.

I had to clean that stuff out once. You have to get every little bit or it will come back.

Big trees made grass hard to grow, but this stuff had no problem.
