FANNING SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) - A sturgeon jumped into an airboat on a Florida river and broke a 25-year-old woman's leg.
Witnesses say the fish was about 5- to 6-feet long and weighed about 60- to 75-pounds.

So it was an orthopedic sturgeon?
There’s something fishy about this!
OOOHhhh that was such a groaner. You made my day.
The Sturgeon General warned about this.
Time for a Federal Dept of Sturgeon regulation, with a cabinet level administrator.
the fishin’s so good in florida, they jump right into the boat as you drive by!
This is a clear case of fishicide.
Better get the Sturgeon General on this case!
Ooooh, that was a bad one!
That said, we have had boaters actually killed by jumping sturgeon here in Florida. For those who’ve never seen them jumping, they simply launch themselves out of the water and then plunge back in - but they’re huge, long fish, and if they hit anything in their leap, it’s all over for whatever they hit.
Then of course, there are the people who have had needlefish leap out of the water and go through some body part. They’re not attacking - just doing what needlefish do, which is leaping. One woman had a needlefish go through her neck. Ick.
Come to Florida and enjoy nature (red in tooth and claw...).
Caviar: It’s what’s for dinner!
OMG that was funny~!!
How big was the fish chasing it?
Like a sturgeon touched for the very first time...

I hear folk eat them fish eggs.
Eat more than just the eggs. Sturgeon is delicious. Put a little mango salsa on it....yummmm.
They certainly do, but I’m not sure anybody eats Florida sturgeon caviar. In CA not long ago, the Delta was full of sturgeon and there was a sort of black market involving Vietnamese fishermen and Russian entrepreneurs, who would illegally harvest the sturgeon, get the caviar...and process it in motels along the highway! If they didn’t get caught, they sold it as Iranian or Russian caviar.
I’ve never heard of a market for FL sturgeon eggs, but maybe our Fish and Game is more vigilant (and definitely armed).
I read that with a question mark hanging over my head as well. I'll bet it was a tarpon.
Caviar comes from a virgin sturgeon,
Virgin sturgeon’s a very fine fish;
Virgin sturgeon needs no urgin’,
That’s why caviar is my dish!
The woman was ticketed by Florida Game & Wildlife for fishing out-of-season and not in posession of a valid fishing license.

In Soviet Russia, fish debones YOU!
Obviously, poor schooling is to blame.
She should be OK, but she may need Sturgery,
I once knew an Eddie “The Fish” Scarzetti. Couldn’t be him. Last I heard, Eddie was sleeping with the fishes.
