Looking for a new 9mm (vanity)

Posted on 06/10/2011 7:29:23 PM PDT by gop4lyf

I am going to a gun show on Sunday and I have narrowed it down to 4 choices. I am not looking for a concealed/carry model since it will be for range shooting and home defense only. I also am not looking for a higher caliber, 9mm only. Does anyone have and experience/opinions on any of these? any feedback is greatly appreciated.

My XD9 has never failed to feed yet. I trust it 100%.

It may just be the picture but that Browning seems to have a longer barrel than standard.

Taurus has a bad rap. I have a Taurus PT92. It’s a great gun.

Find a Browning Hi-Power if you can. Seriously. I love my Kahr PM-9 but the Browning was the one that made it all happen.

Its gotta be the digital camo. If you stare at it hard enough it kinda morfs in and out.

“Friends don’t let friends buy 9mm .45ACP ONLY!”

1911s are great! I have one. But there is something to be said for high capacity magazines in 9mm with the proper ammo. They will be useful when addressing the future street home invasion flash mobs (20 - 40)that many suspect are on the horizon (fewer tactical reloads). One of each in left and right hand are just fine.

Ref. posters request, I would offer XD, Sig, Baretta, and Taurus as mfrs. of quality 9mm, but if it is not a carry gun, get at least 17 mag capacity.

XD 9 would be fine. But check out a Browning Hi-Power.

“Without regard to your choices, beware the gun-show fares. Yours may differ, but most I’ve been to have far more overpriced guns than bargains.”

Agreed. Poster should establish a relationship with dealer(s) in his/her area; for the most part they will be priced competitively, be sincerely interested in customer satisfaction and repeat business, and most importantly, not here today, gone tomorrow.

Use the gun show to compare prices and a evaluate a wide variety of firearms in the flesh. Then buy from a business in your town.

Ditto.

Also, to those .45 elitists on this thread: Would you care to volunteer in taking a few rounds in the chest with my puny 9mm?

“Taurus has a bad rap. I have a Taurus PT92. It’s a great gun.”

I have one also and I second your motion, a super accurate pistol. A lot of people get their jollies ragging on Taurus firearms. I suspect most of them never owned one and they are critical because Taurus is very competitively priced

Taurus is very innovative and almost all of the gun mag reviews are complimentary of their firearms.

That being said, I do like my Colt Defender .45 the best followed by the Judge.

Uh, Notice that I said “and the REST of them” in my post.
I will not list all my calibers for obvious reasons.

I do still miss them all, as they rest at the bottom of the lake. LOL.

Cheers!

I'd suggest you check out the S&W M&P 9mm.

Comfortable, easy to change backstraps that allow different grip sizes, accurate and reliable. Lifetime S&W warrenty.

Have Glocks, Sigs, Brownings and others, I like the S&W best.

The only way to improve on the CZ 82 would be to make it a larger caliber. That would cut down on mag cap (a draw back). So there is no way to improve it. MAK ammo with the polygonal barrel will get the job done. 12 round mag, self
ejecting, Wide mag port equals rapid reloads. 12 at a time. It looks like you shortened the front site. Mine shot low so I painted the rear “dots” white and then the front “ramp” I started from the bottom “with white”
and worked my may up till it was in. Then its DEAD on at “10yd” I dont like to take off metal if I dont have to.I’m curious if yours came with the front post honed down.

Ruger and Sig are my choices. I own the P250 and it is an excellent weapon. Can also be downsized with a few changes to a .22 for target as well as adjusting the size. A lot of Police Dept’s had problems with the Glock, mostly the .40 so I won’t buy one. When you need a weapon, you need reliability, and Sig does it for me. All the Best. JMO
