Skip to comments.Firefox - Flash player Conflict
Posted on 06/10/2011 7:44:24 PM PDT by DirtyHarryY2K
Just bought a new computer and installed firefox browser, tried to watch youtube vids/news vids etc and was prompted to install adobe flash. No dice, install failed, says "conflicting program with firefox.
Anyone else have this problem?
Make sure all your Firefox Browsers are closed before installing the Flash player or it will not install.
Did you possibly get a 64 bit laptop? The regular version of Flash Player plug-in doesn’t work with it. You can search on Adobe’s website for the 64 bit plugin.
I did close the browser before installation. I went to control panel looked in add or remove programs and adobe flash and shockwave are there. Just doesn’t work with the firefox browser.
I’m using Firefox 5.0 and have no problems with Adobe Flash 10.3.181.22. I probably installed it using IE9 though. You may want to try using IE for your installation. I have never had to reinstall the add ons for Firefox - uses the ones from IE just fine.
No, the new machine is a dell studio 7100 xps desktop.
No it does because I have it installed and get the upgrades all the time.
1) Type CTRL ALT DEL
2) Left Click “Start Task Manager”
3) Go to the “Processes” Tab
4) Left Click “Image Name” in the Processes Tab
5) It will Alphabetize all the programs currently running. Scroll down to see if you have Firefox Running. If so then left click it and on the bottom right left click End Process. It will ask you are you sure and say yes.
Sometimes Firefox will not be completely close down and you have to do this.
Without a doubt Flash Player Works with Firefox.
Download Secunia PSI. It will keep all your programs up to date. Here is the link,
Thanks. I’ll give it a try, might take a while I’m no computer nerd. LOL.
Great computer... Sometimes when their new it takes a little time to figure out. Believe me I know it can get frustrating.
At Any Rate I have a Dell Inspiron 1764. Intel Core i5 wuth 8GBs of RAM. I love it.
Greeaat. How do I uninstall all the Adobe crap I downloaded before I found this out?
I followed all the instructions, this time no conflict message popped up. logged off IE started Firefox, went to youtube to check, and still have the problem...
You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video.
Download it from Adobe.
(pulls hair out) LOL
My laptop is 64 bit. I have both 32 bit and 64 bit IE installed. I also have 3 different versions of Adobe Flash Player installed. Doesn’t seem to cause any conflicts. One is labelled as a “plug in” but that isn’t the one Firefox claims it is using.
Yeah, I have a larger issue. Just wanted to vent.
I clicked on the “Firefox” tab at the top of the browser, went to Add-ons, clicked on that and it shows you what is installed for Firefox. It shows “shockwave flash” 10.3.181.22 and it works fine.
Had the same problem. Go to the Firefox Tab, click add ons then select plugins and click on enable Adobe Flash
Make sure your Fire Fox is version 4. Here is the link.
Here is the Non Internet Explorer version of Firefox 64 Bit addition. They look the same. I have feeling you have the wrong addition. Initially (when you first get a computer) its easy to get the wrong version. Save it to your Desktop, and close all Firefox and any other Browsers that are open. Then install the Flash Player. Here is the link.
Just Click on the Top Right (Just to the right of the Green Box “Download Latest Version” 2.94MB.
This should work. If it does not, then go to the previous post and install Secunia PSI. It will keep all your programs up to date, patches, etc... Just Run it. Scan your system and it will tell you what is missing and will fix it.
Success! Fire Fox version 4 did the trick. Many thanks!
I like firefox for the browser add on(s).. The ‘no script’ add on is awesome.
i’ve had the same problem with firefox and a dell xps.
also, the latest version of firefox leaves fragments of
overlapping windows on the screen after i close a window.
and, annoying is that each time i open firefox microsoft
wants to know if i want to allow this software on my pc.
I would first go to the User Account Control Settings. Go to Start, and in blank bar type, User Account Settings. This is where I believe you can change your settings so it does not ask you permission every time you open program.
I don’t know if that is even Firefox that is doing the Fragments? I suspect it’s your Windows settings? Nevertheless, I would run the following three programs. It should clean up everything on your computer. To make sure it’s functioning as it should. At least this will take out the question of if your computer has something on it.
Oh and it may still initially ask you for permissions initially, but then after that it should be okay. Two of the three programs are free. The third one cost $20.00 a year. Well worth the money. I have been using CC Cleaner and Advance System Care for over 5 years. Love them!
Secunia PSI (this will get all program updates, patches, etc..)
CC Cleaner (they ask for donations, but you can download it for free) Once you launch it. Run the top two left (Cleaner and Registry) programs over and over until they come back with nothing.
Advance System Care 4... Run the Deep Care and fix it. Run the Turbo Boost and finally go the Tools bar and run the Disk Doctor. You may also want to run the program Internet Booster.
Now that you’ve got Flash working, install the NoScript add-on to shut it off again. That is, unless you specifically want it on for a particular site and/or object, which you can re-enable via right mouse-click.
Thx. I’m waiting in my dentist’s office at the moment. I’ll look at it this event.
Thanks for the tip. Problem I have now is installing powerpoint viewer. Wonder if I have to exit all browsers like instructed by Sprite518 up-thread? Perhaps any or all programs will have to be installed with the same procedure?
Add me to your ping list please. Thanks!
You’ve been added. Welcome Aboard!
Try what you thought first. Save it to your desk top. Exist out of Firefox and then install it.
If you have to install it with a Browser up... Then I would be willing to bet it’s because you are using Firefox. See Microsoft Programing jerks do this on purpose to force you to use their Internet Explorer. Thus, this is why so many people send Viruses to Windows all the time. People hate Microsoft for doing this. Microsoft use to do it on all their updates for your Windows (XP,Vista, Windows 7) too. They finally recently just stopped. Perhaps because it was backfiring on Microsoft? Apple seems to be gaining a lot of ground on them.
Yeah, all outside plug-ins should be installed with all browsers closed.
As an aside, if you’re going to add NoScript, I also like Ghostery (blocks tracking cookies) and AdBlock Plus as privacy and annoyance filters.
Yep, had to download the PPT program with IE and install with browsers closed. Whata PITA. MS Sucks!
Thanks for the help guys.
Good deal! Glad you got it installed and learn something about computers why you are at it.
I have problems with videos and firefox also. Some sites they wont play
Firefox plugins are blocking the script on those videos.
The browser addons I use Ad block and No Script will both stop the scripts from running on some sites. If I trust the site I click the no script icon and click allow all this page or temporarily allow all this page, that usually corrects the problem. Ad block is simular, you have to approve those sites like youtube otherwise the vids will not play.
