Firefox - Flash player Conflict

Posted on 06/10/2011 7:44:24 PM PDT by DirtyHarryY2K

Just bought a new computer and installed firefox browser, tried to watch youtube vids/news vids etc and was prompted to install adobe flash. No dice, install failed, says "conflicting program with firefox.

Anyone else have this problem?

I like firefox for the browser add on(s).. The ‘no script’ add on is awesome.

overlapping windows on the screen after i close a window.

and, annoying is that each time i open firefox microsoft

wants to know if i want to allow this software on my pc.

I would first go to the User Account Control Settings. Go to Start, and in blank bar type, User Account Settings. This is where I believe you can change your settings so it does not ask you permission every time you open program.

I don’t know if that is even Firefox that is doing the Fragments? I suspect it’s your Windows settings? Nevertheless, I would run the following three programs. It should clean up everything on your computer. To make sure it’s functioning as it should. At least this will take out the question of if your computer has something on it.

Oh and it may still initially ask you for permissions initially, but then after that it should be okay. Two of the three programs are free. The third one cost $20.00 a year. Well worth the money. I have been using CC Cleaner and Advance System Care for over 5 years. Love them!

Secunia PSI (this will get all program updates, patches, etc..)

CC Cleaner (they ask for donations, but you can download it for free) Once you launch it. Run the top two left (Cleaner and Registry) programs over and over until they come back with nothing.

Advance System Care 4... Run the Deep Care and fix it. Run the Turbo Boost and finally go the Tools bar and run the Disk Doctor. You may also want to run the program Internet Booster.

Now that you’ve got Flash working, install the NoScript add-on to shut it off again. That is, unless you specifically want it on for a particular site and/or object, which you can re-enable via right mouse-click.

Thanks for the tip. Problem I have now is installing powerpoint viewer. Wonder if I have to exit all browsers like instructed by Sprite518 up-thread? Perhaps any or all programs will have to be installed with the same procedure?

Try what you thought first. Save it to your desk top. Exist out of Firefox and then install it.

If you have to install it with a Browser up... Then I would be willing to bet it’s because you are using Firefox. See Microsoft Programing jerks do this on purpose to force you to use their Internet Explorer. Thus, this is why so many people send Viruses to Windows all the time. People hate Microsoft for doing this. Microsoft use to do it on all their updates for your Windows (XP,Vista, Windows 7) too. They finally recently just stopped. Perhaps because it was backfiring on Microsoft? Apple seems to be gaining a lot of ground on them.

Yeah, all outside plug-ins should be installed with all browsers closed.

As an aside, if you’re going to add NoScript, I also like Ghostery (blocks tracking cookies) and AdBlock Plus as privacy and annoyance filters.

Firefox plugins are blocking the script on those videos.

The browser addons I use Ad block and No Script will both stop the scripts from running on some sites. If I trust the site I click the no script icon and click “allow all this page” or ‘temporarily allow all this page”, that usually corrects the problem. Ad block is simular, you have to approve those sites like youtube otherwise the vids will not play.
