In perhaps the biggest news of the DC Comics re-launch, a brand new look for Superman has been revealed. When DC Comics promised to unveil 52 new number one issues, the biggest controversy was over whether this meant even Action Comics would be starting over. As suspected, it is now official that after seventy-three years, there will be a new Action Comics #1. There will also be a brand new costume for the Man of Steel.

DC Comics has officially announced four new #1 issues involving the Superman family of titles. The longest-running monthly comic book of all time will restart in September 2011 with Action Comics #1. The new Action Comics will be written by Grant Morrison with artwork by Rags Morales. According to DC Comics, Action Comics #1 will present a Superman who is defending a world that doesn’t trust their first superhero. The cover image of Action Comics #1 shows Superman in a t-shirt with the familiar “S” emblem, a red cape, jeans, and boots.

Is this the Superman who renounced his American citizenship? Why doesn’t he have 6 inches of boxer shorts showing above his sagging jeans, or a few piercings in his face?

Not that one.

This is yet another Superman. They’ve been starting a new one every few years now.

Jor-El and Lara would never send their son out looking like that. Neither would Jonathan and Martha Kent.

Just despicable.

I didn’t know they were still making comic books. I guess there are comic book stores around somewhere. I just haven’t seen one lately.

or a few piercings in his face?

Because he couldn't find Kryptonite studs?

Seriously how could he ever get piercings?

Sort of a problem since birth.

You shoulda seen the look on the Mohel's face...

Actually, this is the new costume.

...and it still looks stupid as Hell. Why does Superman need armored boots? What, is he afraid he's going to stub his toe on a kryptonite rock?

As someone who grew up in the 50’s reading Superman, I think the direction they are taking him is ridiculous. What next? Will he be turning black next? Change his name to Super-Weiner?

Well, He’s a Kommie traitor now, so his gay azz outfit isn’t all that surprising.

Well, except the color tone. Could be a bit more muted.

The cover image of Action Comics #1 shows Superman in a t-shirt with the familiar “S” emblem, a red cape, jeans, and boots.

If those jeans aren't made out of denim blankets included in the rocket ship, they won't hold up so well when Supes starts flying around Metropolis at Mach 25 or so, assuming he can still do that.

Seriously how could he ever get piercings?

After a nasty bout with red kryptonite he needed Supergirl and Krypto to focus their combined heat vision on his face and fingernails to get rid of unwanted growth. Maybe they can focus the beam smaller for a piercing.

The monkey's name is Beppo. So I guess there should a "B" and an "O" in the answer.

Seriously, does anyone read Superman comic books anymore? It seems that comic books are a dying genre and so they stir up faux controversy to try to increase sales. It’s just my opinion as a non-comic book reader.

That was my first thought. Will Lois Lane dress like Daisy Mae? That would actually probably sell a lot of comics.

He used to live behind my house in Pleasant Grove, Alabama! Had to have super powers to get the bird feeder after all the things I did to stymie him. I finally gave up and started leaving pecans and sunflower seeds out on the other side of the house from the feeder. He had regular disagreements with the blue hornet (a Bluejay which liked the seeds, too).

Actually I think it looks pretty good. An update, but not a total departure from the classic Superman uniform. The red underwear on the outside of his pants really had to go.

Actually, there’s going to be a black Batman. Batwing is a member of the League of Batmen (don’t ask) and is a superhero who operates throughout Africa. Personally, I would have chosen Knight and Squire (the British version of Batman and Robin) for a solo title.

“Batwing is a member of the League of Batmen”

They’re really a group of military officers’orderlies. And their theme song? “I was Kaiser Bill’s Batman”, admirably performed by Whistling Jack Smith.
