Connection, No Connection, Limited Connection (Help Geeks)

Posted on 06/14/2011 6:45:40 PM PDT by freejohn

Yeah .. I've bothered everyone before about this cr@p.
This Vista 64BIT is on the USB netgear WG111V2 adapter.

The host pc is a windows 7 with the dsl modem and netgear WGT624V3 router.

I haven't yet bought a new router and wireless adapter but .. SOON!
It has gotten to the point that I don't know WHEN I am going to drop my connection and Here's a twist: Sometimes When I am fully connected (according to diagnostics) I can't open any pages with any browser!?
Everything says connected to local and internet but I can't open any pages!?
The following are screen shots of my IP (or non IP) connections as I run into problems.

Each picture says what it is at the time .. Working 1 is before my first disconnect.

Working 2 is after I've managed to get back up.

Limited is just that .. Local connection only.

Not Working speaks for itself and Options is the list that windows brings up for possible fixes.

The only things that seem to work (once in a while) is the "reset network adapter" or "get a new automatic IP address".

Sometimes rebooting everything (modem, router) works too.

I am hoping that someone can compare these charts and seem anything that might stand out as to a problem?
Thanks Everyone.

I don't know if it's the Vista pc or the Netgear adapter and router.

BOTH seem to Suck!

Agree> I lost Comcast connection to internet/email and got a message that the Microsoft connection wasn’t working and possibly another system was running it. Nothing is running and I’ve run the diagnostics, Wireless Internet crap, and get bullshit notices about the Wizard instructions, etc.

Microsoft sucks and it just gets worse everytime a new version comes out. And Comcast charges us thru the nose for a crappy, intermitent connection system. I could fart and lose it.

HELP!

It took me ‘six’ times rebooting to post the first time.

It took two more times to post this!

Are your wired computers getting to the internet?

I recommend overwriting Windows Vista-CR@P™© with Windows 7.

I suspect this post may not be of any help to you(I'm not the brightest bulb in this area) but when this happens to me it's never a hard wired connection and it's always because my computer, on it's own, drops from my router and picks up an unsecured router with a poor connection. As soon as I disconnect from the unsecured router and pick my router back up the problem goes away.

Good luck.

I’m not a network or security guy, but...

You appear to have multiple connections (numerous) to your wireless adapter.

I made a fatal mistake once.

Your wireless adapter may have allowed a hacker to tunnel through to your vista pc and create a bunch of connections for their own use.

I had this happen to me with more than one pc running connected by a cheap little switch.

Many people do not change their admin password from the default on their wireless router. If you don’t go in and do some administration on the wireless router to lock it down real good, IMHO it’s only a matter of time until Vista is taken over. IMHO, little retail routers and switches, wireless routers, etc., seem to be a hacker’s dream.

I had over one hundred connections on my Vista machine, a little netbook. It got to be unusable, I did not have anything important on it (it’s Vista), so I simply got my downloaded image of centos linux (free) and copied it to a memory stick, rebooted the Vista netbook from the memory stick and installed centos on it, blowing away Vista, thereby removing most of the problem.

The other part of the solution on linux is don’t run printing services while you’re connected to the internet (inconvenient to turn on and off, but it beats being hacked).

I know how to get linux to ignore packets, but Vista is even more of a nightmare to me than the prior version of windows NT, which fits the pattern for all m$ products. After XP, I really can’t advocate use of m$ products any more at all unless necessary, and then they must be, IMHO, behind serious firewalling managed by a professional.

What it says:

“Causes for Code 10:
•IRQ conflict
•Adapter not plugged in properly
•Wrong/Incorrect driver installed

Solution:

1.Uninstall adapter drivers by right-clicking on the NETGEAR Adapter and select Uninstall.

2.Turn off computer and remove adapter from the computer.
3.Turn on computer and install drivers again by using the CD or the software you downloaded for the adapter from the support site.
4.When you are prompted to plug in or insert the adapter, insert the adapter on a different slot to avoid any conflict with existing devices.
5.If the issue persists, uninstall the drivers from the system.
6.Download the latest drivers for your adapter from NETGEAR download page and follow installation instructions.
Note: Make sure to download the correct model and version for your adapter.

My Vista pc seems to do that sort of thing frequently too, especially on the wireless connection. This is a “slightly used” computer that my brother gave me a few months ago. I have Verizon DSL, and it seems to lose the connection when there is a storm in the vicinity too. Had problems with the Verizon land-line phone a few months ago, related to the box on the telephone pole outside. Not sure if it’s related.

I started to reply “no you won’t- no one ever does” but I didn’t :-)

It’s okay, doesn’t bother anyone but often I wonder ‘why?’.

Hi mrsmith
I’m B-a-a-c-k but I honestly don’t know for how long.

I have tried Everything that the folks in this forum (and some other forums) have suggested.

Things have just gotten worse.

Even now as I type this .. my connection has dropped which means when I am done typing .. I will have to copy and paste this to notepad, reboot everything ‘again’ and come back to post. 8(

It has gotten to the point that I just hate trying to post anymore!

See you in a little while .. I hope!?

A double post .. not caused by the recent problems on FR.

When I tried to post the first time .. my connection dropped for about 5 seconds and I thought that the post hadn’t gone through.

My connection has acquired the annoying habit of blinking off and then back on seconds later.
