The former West Point cadet who's suing singer Patti LaBelle's entourage for allegedly assaulting him at Bush Intercontinental Airport last March has added an airport operations worker to the list of defendants.
In an amended complaint filed earlier this week, Richard King accuses Houston Airport System employee Cahl Rasmussen of relaying false and defamatory information to King's West Point supervisors -- namely, that King instigated the confrontation that left him bloody and landed him in the hospital.
"[Rasmussen] was not a witness, but without compunction, passed on the aforesaid false report as if it was true," the complaint states. "In an act far outside the scope of any job description, Rasmussen initially e-mailed, then spoke on the telephone, to King's supervisors at West Point."
The complaint does not state if Rasmussen saw the video of the incident before allegedly contacting West Point.
King's lawyers told Hair Balls earlier this month that, based on this information, West Point suspended King. The Houston Chronicle reported earlier that West Point officials said they conducted a "thorough investigation" of the incident and took "appropriate action" by suspending King. West Point officials have not responded to our request to confirm that Rasmussen spoke with King's supervisors, and Rasmussen has not responded to requests for comment.
Rasmussen has been an airport operations coordinator since 2004, according to his Facebook page. (Under his "employers" section, he wrote "Work as little as possible. Remember I work for the government!!" -- classic, Rasmussen).
He lists his previous occupation as a police officer for the city of Aurora, Colorado, from 1985-2000.
LaBelle and her entourage have not filed a response.

Anything like this that involves ‘body guards’ of a quote ‘DIVA’, smells like kaka from the get-to to me. These are the same ‘role models’ that habitually shoot up each others’ lives. Best thing is to stay completely clear away from anything resembling a black entertainer. They look for confrontation on every level.
And his wife is a fan of Kathy Griffin. That should tell you all you need to know.

BTW, The Pentagon has just decreed that this dumb habit of having military personnel wearing BDU everywhere is over. And, in other good news, they're ditching the berets.

Public drunk does not require a BAC to support the charge, at least in civilian courts. What would have been the reason to collect a BAC as part of medical treatment?
Agree that honor code violation is a different animal if the cadet lied about consuming alcohol or the amount. The Academy rushed to judgement in this matter, IMO.
I saw this last month, and finally calmed down. Seeing it again,I am still pretty angry at this woman and her entourage, when you see the guy knock him down,then straddle him and talk trash to him while he is concussed (what he is CLEARLY doing in a position of dominance)
But I am REALLY pissed at West Point, because they just took this right off the bat and acted on it, basing their actions on the word of people posing with the jerk “Don’t you know who I am” washed up singer, and now in light of the video, will not reverse their stance.
This cadet was railroaded. Maybe he did lie about something and run afoul of the sacred “Honor Code”, but he should never have been put in the position to do so, if that video is any indication.
I'm not going to disagree with you. It has always been my experience that the service academies won't punish public drunkenness in civilian areas unless that behavior rises to a criminal charge (or arrest causing the cadet to miss time). I don't believe that happened here.
Instead, somehow a blood alcohol test was administered and the results of that test was provided to the Academy. How that happened has yet to be publicly explained. It's odd. And, I agree about the ridiculous policy about the BDUs (or as the Navy and Marines call them, cammies). They're fine for garrison, but outside of garrison, you should be wearing your service uniform. In this regard, the Marines have always had a much more (I think) respectable policy of NOT allowing Marines to wear cammies off base, except when in the course of an official duty that prescribed cammies.

I am afraid you are mistaken, sir. Having attended Annapolis. Our Honor code/concept was quite simple: Midshipmen shall neither lie cheat or steal. At least that was the version while I was ensconced on the Severn. They went back to a longer version shortly thereafter, but it basically had the same idea.
Now...the UCMJ and the Brigade’s code of conduct/regulations talked about public intoxication and disorderly conduct; but nothing in the honor code said anything in that regard. Maybe a 6000 series chit for that...the worst hoped it would get them a black N to at least have something to show for it, but hardly expulsion.
I actually read that in a hard-copy paper - one of the military papers, either Stars & Stripes or perhaps Military Times.
With respect to the BAC, I mention just above that I'm not sure how the Academy came to be in possession of that test. It's possible that they simply asked the cadet to provide it, or he volunteered the information. Remember, when you're a member of a service academy, lying is just as bad (and maybe worse) as any infraction. I believe it's rule number one - don't lie.
And, as you point out, it's possible that he lied about consuming the booze, and then the Academy read the police report that decried the cadet as smelling of alcohol. However, I don't think that's likely because if he was expelled for lying, it's not likely that they would have been so immediately agreeable to reinstatement in 18-months, which they clearly have been.
I don't know if Rasmussen is in the video, but watch it thru to the end. The hugs, the grins and the good time laughter begin at approx. 2:51.....culminating with security guy getting a photo taken with the Queen.......
