Worst Acting in a Major Movie (Name your examples)
Self | June 26, 2011 | PJ-Comix

I was just watching the original "True Grit" starring John Wayne. Yes, he deserved his Oscar for the role of Rooster Cogburn but opposite him was someone who played his part horribly. I am talking about Glenn Campbell as the Texas Ranger. Sheesh! Talk about stilted delivery. Really bad. Another example of bad acting was also in a John Wayne movie---"The Alamo." It was Frankie Avalon as Smitty who was supposed to be a young Tennessee frontiersman. I like Frankie Avalon in the beach flicks but, let's face it, he was waaay too urban to be believable in the role of Smitty. Whenever I see "The Alamo," it is impossible to forget that this is just a movie because of Frankie Avalon's completely unconvincing acting.

There are many other major movies with examples of really horrible acting. I cited a couple of such examples, so please list yours.

I've always thought that Faye Emerson, FDR's daughter-in-law, was remarkably consistent in producing bad performances. But I think her worst of all was her cameo in 1943’s Air Force playing the wounded girlfriend of the hero in a painful hospital scene.

Brad Pitt was just AWFUL in Troy.

Also in Troy it looked like they had a wax figure substitute for Peter O'Toole as the king.

Natalie Portman. Star Wars Episode 3 “You’re breaking my heart!” G A G!!!

Wait, this reminded me of what I consider to be the most awful scene played by two actors: Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler with an animal cracker in Armageddon. Talk about GAG! "Do you think there are two other people doing this?" I hope that there are not two other people who are this lame in the UNIVERSE!

That whiny douchebag is supposed to be Darth Vader? Sure! Portman is almost as bad.

Yes, but lines like, ...”To crush your enemies, see them driven before you ... and to hear the lamentation of their women!”,..are somewhat memorable.

He can’t do an accent, period. Seven Years and Troy are perfect examples.

It beats me why anyone would want to sing and dance in the rain.
I missed the message. Social Justice?

See "The Last Samurai" although arguably Ken Watanabi is what the movie is all about.

Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman

Actually that was one of my favorite Pacino roles. I loved the scene where he acted like an attorney for the defense at that exclusive boys school.

Whatsherface in "The Black Swan" actually managed to make the lesbian sex scene boring.

that's not easy

Keanu Reeves as the alien, Klaatu. An alien who is all but emotionless and speaks in a monotone – isn’t that the role Mr. Reeves was born to play? Based on previous performances, you might think so, and yet he still seems shallow and unconvincing.
***Who says movie reviewers can’t write? Basically he says that Keanu Reeves looks shallow and unconvincing when he’s playing an emotionless monotonic character. A sock puppet would do a better job acting. Now... that’s good writing. I disagree with the reviewer, but it’s still excellent writing.

Agree. Ep 1-3 were terrible, and the acting pathetic.

I've got it! The worst acting ever: the first gas station attendant in Wayne's World (before Charlton Heston stepped in.)

But then again, he could have been acting like a bad actor, which would make him a really good actor.

Kevin Costner in Water World.

It was a little hard to get past his drinking of his own recycled urine at the beginning.
